SXSW: Analyst says PS4 and next Xbox games to be $70

I found this article on Ign.com.

Link - http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/03/...s-will-cost-70

Quote:
SXSW: Analyst Says PS4 and Next Xbox Games Will Cost $70

Could next-gen games cost ten bucks more? Mr. Pachter thinks so.

by Casey Lynch
March 9, 2013

PS4 and next Xbox games will retail at $70, ten dollars more than current gen games, said Wedbush Securities Research Analyst Michael Pachter during a panel at SXSW.

The news was tweeted this afternoon by Spike and GamesTrailers Host Geoff Keighley.
It is getting too costly to be a gamer anymore. Hell it is getting too expensive to make a game anymore. The days of good decent length quality games may be becoming extinct.

If that's the case then I'll be sticking with this generation and it's games for a very very long time.

Pachter has a what, .005% rate of being right? Why do people still listen to him? I mean I appreciate what the guy's trying to do, he's just fucking terrible at it. I'd wager the extra $10 we'd be spending that this is false.

This.

Also, aren't actual games still the same price that they used to be?
Meaning, if you take inflation into consideration, games are cheaper than they used to be.

The issues with this are A) games were already probably a bit more expensive than should have been already, if the success of the used game market is any indication, and B) The US economy is kinda out of whack right now, so "inflation" isn't as simple as it seems - the inflation is happening almost exclusively in the upper class. The average person's finances are still living in the late 90's.

Not necessarily.
Most people will buy a cheaper alternative, no matter if the New copy is expensive or not.

DLC also can add to a game's overall price, too. Granted it's usually an "optional" thing, but if you want all of the content a game utilizing DLC has to offer, you're probably paying more than $70 overall for the game already.

Just to use it as an example because I'm looking at picking up one of said DLC things (which I'm aware makes me "part of the problem", but whatever), if you bought all of the content DLC for Mass Effect 3 you're paying an extra $50 on top of the initial price point (it's come down since then, but if you bought it at release that's $50-$60). That's only looking at the stuff that specifically gives you more stuff to do in the single player campaign, the overall cost can go considerably higher than that if you take stuff like cosmetic, weapon, and multiplayer packs into consideration.

Most games aren't quite that egregious about it, but it's still a contributing factor to the cost of games on the AAA side of the market. The cost of the box isn't necessarily the final price point for the game anymore.

Unless you buy an EA game. Then the DLC is mandatory since it contains the end of the game!

Yeah, I always end up buying alot of the dlc for a game. Watch the gaming crash video I just put up, and the guy talks about EA being the first to crash, and burn.
