They don't have much of a fleet to begin with, so at most this is a political threat...,
I doubt they could even make it near the US coast..., the ships are so small...

Plus in 1988 we sank a two of their boats easily...

Putting their fleet near our waters doesn't make much sense to me. I mean, are we supposed to be impressed? Frightened? They're trying to make a point for the sake of making a point, which never ends well. It's basically exacerbating an already tense situation- I wouldn't be surprised if this led to some sort of open conflict. Disappointed, but not surprised.

Which isn't to say we've never employed similar tactics ourselves. But the point is that Iran's motions against the US go far beyond simple rhetoric and hostile troop movements.

Whilst that's all well and good it's hardly ironclad and can be explained away in a similar fashion to what the Russians did with old soviet bunkers and raiding of resources by extremist factions prompting a "clean up". Funny how they're still getting weapons, but yeah I doubt they're doing anything but trying to track serial numbers or noting the point of origins as opposed to any real intel of handovers and such. Not excusing it mind you, just relatively hard to pinpoint I'd imagine.

But yeah, regardless I figured their fleet would be miniscule or heavily outdated with what I've heard is that they're more "viable" with their air force (which was also suitably outdated but better maintained), hence the dismissive nature of their movement. Of course anything they do doesn't affect me anyway so it's not like I cared much to begin with.

It's more of a publicity stunt...
Everyone in Iran is pretty much against the government unless you say you are fighting Israel or the US...
then you can say "what, you don't like islam"

It's the equivelant of saying anyone who doesn't support us is gay...
