Heres the short version, like it or not, people like good graphics. You cant do SHIT about it. Nor can you do anything if a game company makes crappy games. You go make a great game with out-dated graphics if these companies are ruining your experience, that, or get a new hobby.

What you guys think we "dont need" or what you dont want or find necessary, then go play with your goddamn PS One or Nintendo 64. You try so damn hard to make people who like this stuff look bad, screw you.

Are you even reading what Don is actually saying? Or are you guys so bent on winning some dumb argument? His points are valid, true things.

Good graphics matter. Games should have good graphics and good gameplay. Thats what people want. You cant do anything about it. Theres games that have good graphics and bad gameplay, dont play them! Too much money to pay for these good games with good graphics? Wait! Do what I do, wait until theyre traded in and get them for $20 and enjoy everything. You dont have to pay full new price for a game. I did ONCE since the latest console wave came out. ONCE. And I went to eBay and payed $50, its still a lot but 10 bucks less than game stop or whatever else.

They should have equal emphasis on both?

First, you don't have to be a total bitch about this.

Second, nobody's saying that we want our games to go back to the PSX era. All we want is for them to slow the fuck down with graphics before the game industry drives itself out of business.

Again, nobody's saying that. Pretty much all major games that come out start at $60, including Assassin's Creed 2, which apparantly has terrible graphics or something. The problem is how much it costs the COMPANY, and whether they'll have the money to keep making games if they have to continue to buy and relearn new graphics tools on a regular basis.

Is this a rhetorical question?

Uh...dude, the graphics from last year are the same ones from two years ago. Companies are just seeing how far they can push a certain engine.

Maybe if a company wants money they should make a game worth purchasing. It's not like there's a new fucking graphics engine out there to push game graphics to the limit. James Cameron is not making video games. Is it really so wrong for Naughty Dog to experiment, successfully, with vocap? I guess not because that game sold copies.

You ever think that maybe it's not the graphics that makes companies hurt? You ever think it's because of the price tag? You ever think it's because of the marketing? You ever think it's because a game just isn't very good? It's easy to say graphics are ruining games. But that's not true at all.

It's like everyone is wearing nostalgia glasses.

Or everyone thinks that all games are these days are graphic jerk fests.

And they'll do that by investing in the game's mechanics, or the pixels in someone's eye?

Ok, well I didnt mean to be a bitch but it seemed like you were being very nasty about it. Sorry if I took it the wrong way, Yvl.

As far as the companies go, again what I said before last, there a A LOT more gamers, so that probably makes it up for them. I couldnt really answer any of that, but thats what makes sense to me. They couldnt afford to do it if people werent buying a lot of their products, if its one game or another.

Maybe I was misunderstanding your points or just taking them the wrong way.

I just dont see these companies running into problems at this point, regardless.

Depends on which company/developer you ask.

no, we arent saying that. itll make a game nicer, sure. but they need to make a good game, too. graphics arent the reason games suck, they suck because they chose to make said games a certain way and you didnt like it. just becuase they have good graphics doesnt mean thats why said game is bad

I'm asking you. You're the producer, and you can hire one more person to work on a game before production gets started, both teams are pretty averagely staffed. Do you get a designer or programer that will allow for more gameplay in the game, or an artist to increase graphical detail in the scenes you already have?

What kind of game am I making? I would need to get okay from the other producers. I would also need to run it by the director and executive producer. I also need to talk to the writers and see how the story is looking to better determine which would be more vital at this stage of development. Oh and don't forget I need to talk to the editors.

I wouldn't want to add extra gameplay for the sake of extra gameplay. That's how games get stale.

Executive producer, you're making an action RPG. Adding an extra designer or programmer will not add extra gameplay, it will help assure you that you don't have to cut any essential elements of the game to get it shipped on time.
