I've noticed that most people are either in the 2D or 3D camp. It seems like maybe only 25% of fighting game fans do well with both. I've always been mostly a 2D/pseudo2D guy. Soulcal is the only 3D series that I've ever been able to really get into. The only reason I ever played others like Tekken is just because everyone else I know was doing it.

I am an avid supporter of both, though I am way better at 3D games.

I think my problem might have been more that I was approaching it from the wrong angle. I was comparing this to a 2D fighter the whole time without stopping to think that the genres are completely separate and shouldn't be compared.

This. I'm very firmly in the 2D camp, so much so that I'm not even all that crazy about the psuedo-2D that Capcom's switched to, even though it's still the 2D playstyle. But that's not news to anyone at this point, so.

Same here, and even then, it's purely for the story and solo gameplay. I've never played competitively with anyone (outside of, like, my brothers or something) in any of the SC games I've played, and probably would get my butt kicked pretty hard if I ever tried. XD

Yeah, the two are vastly different. I mean, you can ring people out in Soul Cal. Which is always bullshit. Tekken and DoA don't pull that shit. Tekken specifically is largely about juggles and ten hit combs. DoA is all about counters and shit. Soul Cal operates on a sort of rock-paper-scissors vibe. Then they added stuff like supers and made it easier for people to pick up and play.

Well stay away from SC5 if that is the case.

Okay, so my nephew talked me into playing it with him today.

The meter system is still killing it for me.

The meter system is fine. You gain it so fast and if you are losing the game literally fills it for you. I barely use supers with people anymore, it all goes towards guard impacts or counters. Meter is great.

I've only played through arcade mode twice before we started playing something else, so I don't have much experience with it so far. But from what little I've played, I loved it. I think the meter fits in well with the system

I agree with this 100%.
