The documentary Inside Deep Throat hasn't aroused much interest at the box office, but Hollywood is preparing another movie about Linda Lovelace. This one will be a biopic, and it will star a practiced attention-grabber: Courtney Love. Variety reports that Love is attached to star in Lovelace as the Deep Throat star, who later renounced her porn career, claimed she'd been coerced into starring in the X-rated movie that made her famous, and became an anti-porn crusader. Jason Blum (Hysterical Blindness) is producing the film, which is being written by first-time screenwriter Merritt Johnson.
Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind) had once optioned Lovelace's memoir Ordeal with an eye toward making a biopic, but he reportedly thought it would be too depressing, so he took the documentary approach and made Inside Deep Throat instead. Despite Grazer's prestige, the marketing muscle of Universal, postitive reviews, and the titillating topic, the NC-17-rated documentary hasn't boomed at the box office; in seven weeks of release, it's earned just $613,000.
Love, of course, has experience playing a porn-industry icon; in 1996, the rocker-actress earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role as stripper-turned-smut magazine empress Althea Flynt in The People vs. Larry Flynt.
