what happened to the elf and dwarf races?

I've noticed that in most modern rpgs elves and dwarfs have almost no presence. I just realized this tonight actually... the Suikoden series and some of the FF games have Elves, but they're both almost non-existant now.

yeah, i was thinking about this when i beat Zelda: the wind waker, tonight..they should have more elfs in RPGs...

From the games i've played, Elves are a part of nature itself. And when it gets ruin, the elves themselves vanishes. same for the dwarf, I think.

outer continent maybe second or so disc all they really said was 'rally ho' and 'them teh pointy hats'
FFXI supposedly have elves in them since its a mmorpg
Star Ocean has elf look a likes in the Expellians (lol i like calling them that) and Nedians
In most FF's they replaced elves and dwarves with chocobos and moogles as a trademark thingy i bet.
NWN has elves and dwarves though since they have a character builder and thats a fairly recent rpg.

Maybe elves and dwarves have so much less presence because throughout the years, they've bred with normal humans so much distinctions have become blurred to the point where its impossible to tell...

The game designers are just too frigging lazy to put in Elves and Dwarves into the games. Basically, they like to use lots of humans, a mutant or two, and nobody cool. We just need to go threaten them into adding elves and dwarves...maybe by strapping thermite bombs to their arses...

OOORRR i could strip nekkid and strap myself with weiners and paradrop into their meeting then donkeyslap all the big wigs of teh company and force them to add in dwarves and elves before jumping backwards out of the room with the aid of ninja dust.
