Yeah they did the original series then theres the movies and i saw some dvds of Slayers Returns with a picture of Leena Inverse on the front. I chuckled and moved on to read the Lupin III manga next to it.
But yes my friend has the series on dvd in japanese, much better then the english that ive seen.

I've never seen it, but I've read good things about it. I guess I should go buy a few episodes of it.
I've never seen it either, but it sounds good.

I didn't know that the translations are that bad. I don't watch a lot of anime like some of you do though. but... It makes sense. Game translations are still not that great.

FF7 is pretty bad.. but I think Breath of Fire 2 holds the title of the worst translation ever.

well even with subtitles you can get shocking bootleg copies, Star Ocean Ex is one of those where they change the characters names 4-5 times through the series, mispronounce common sayings (ie watashi wa Claude desu should = Im Claude instead = Cloxo. C.Kenni, which isnt that bad except thats the spelling and he didnt say his last name)
but yeah as long as the translation doesnt change much im fine with translations.

but most translations dont stay the same
Well, many times they just don't have the right words aviable to use.

if your saying that some words in the japanese language cannot be translated into american then yes that is correct
most of the time they have to completely change the words to make it work
otherwise it would soud just more wrong then it already dose lol
Wallie Wildo
04-11-2004, 02:48 AM
And that would be bad

that and because japanese is traditionally written top to bottom right to left, and when translated to verticle left to right it ends up as almost backwards in some cases. Plus theres double meanings depending on the context so its quite easy to mistake the word for its solo meaning rather then its context meaning.

another problem translators run into is translating jokes from japanese to english. most of the time they have to completely rewrite the jokes.
