actually, if you want to get technical.....

Every RPG is a ripoff of D&D, which is a ripoff of Fantasy novels (i.e. Tolken's books), which are a ripoff of mythology, which is a ripoff of the stories a bunch of ancient drunks told around the fire at night, and the following posts, which will be ripoffs of this one, are ripoffs.

...but, other than that.. I've always felt that most modern rpgs stem from the older ones, but I've never found one that's a complete ripoff of another...

While the point is misguided, its not absurd. No matter how "overrated" people may say the game is, you can't deny its influence.

There is the whole batch of GTA clones that automatically fit this category.

I remember thinking that Dark Cloud 2 was ironically like 3 games melded together, I can't remember which I had in mind though...

Maybe we should just say that every game is a ripoff or could be a ripoff of another game. Sometimes you just play a game and feel like you've played it before.
