Robber wields sword in gas station heist
A gas station in Arendal on Norway's southern coast was robbed early Tuesday morning by a man dressed like a Japanese ninja. He brandished a sword, seized some cash and fled on a bicycle.
Witnesses told the local newspaper Agderposten that he was armed with both the sword and a knife.
One man said he went into the kiosk attached to the gas station to buy some cigarettes. "Then I saw a man run in," he said. "He had a ninja-like hood, was carrying a knife and had a sword sticking out of the back of his trousers."
Local police confirmed that the man was masked and armed. He appeared to be a foreigner and threatened the kiosk clerk into turning over "a few thousand-kroner notes" (the equivalent of a few hundred US dollars).
There was only one employee on duty at the time of the robbery.
