should the government legislate morals? by that i mean should the government be able to outlaw gay marriage, bigomy, and drug usage?

I don't think so. This country guarentees seperation of church and state, so religious reasons can't be used. But, even more than that, this country is supposedly a free country, so the yshould be able to.

Besides, even if teh amendment gets passed, it COULD be repealed...

things like drug usage can be outlawed because it is hurting someone. people don't have the right to even hurt themselves. so that means there's a victim, and it can be outlawed. gay marraige cannot be outlawed because there is no victem involved.

Power makes it easy for people to force their beleifs and views on other people, and ultimately, everyone has some desire to do so. Thus, they try, and if they do, then its the people that get screwed over cuz of it.

IMO the laws we have (for the most part) do help out....we are talking about stuff here that if changed, for the 1st like year everyone would do it cause they can, as much as they can, and no that they cant go to jail now so it would make things crazy...bad i dea to change any laws..even if they shouldnt have been made in the 1st place

and some drugs should be ok IMO (weed) more people die a year from drinking then people go to jail a year cause of weed and if you do the math, it would cost less and less people would die...overall that would make things better (tho it would never happen)

the government sees cheap stuff that lower, working class citizens can buy. government says "oh ****, we can't have these workers taking downers, it's going f*ck up our economy! we need these poor bastards working! better make it illegal!"
i don't mean to sound like there's a huge conspiracy against the poor people by the goverment, but that's honestly a lot of the reasoning behind it.

one could argue that if someone can smoke marijuana all the time, and still go to work and do their job just fine, than what is the problem? why would it be illegal? that may be a good arguement. i personally don't care either way. legal or illegal, i don't plan on smoking it either way. certain people are going to need to get their fix whether it's legal or not.

most of our laws are just established to protect the foolish. people who are too stupid to not fill their bodies w/ harmful drugs....too stupid to not put on a seat belt, stupid enough to drop out of high school until they're 16, so the government is forced to make laws protecting them from themselves. this is really very sad that it affects everyone's rights because of it.

No, thats untrue. On post-mortem examination no one on record has ever died because of weed. Millions of people die from tobacco every year. Weed ****s with your brain but it doesnt **** with your heart and your lungs and arteries.

cigerettes are bad because of the tar, carbon monoxide, arsenic and cyanide. all smoke ****s with your lungs but whilce weed will just make it a little harder to breath and make you cough a little more cigerettes will actually cause lung cancer, heart disease, and emphazima. weed kills brain cells but that just makes you a little dumber and possibly takes a few years off your life, but no more than cigerettes. the only other thing weed does is make you impetent and lower your sperm count.

I don't think that goverment should make those laws, much less should they even have the right. Moral values are in the eyes of the beholder. Such as when we think someone is different, they make think we are just different. Creating a nation without the freedon of one's self expression, even if it's imoral, cannot be made lawful without going against our own constitution too. How can you say that this is a free contry if goverment controls the way we express ourselves? :confused

Unfortunately, the "separation of curch and state" doesn't exist. Pull out a dollar bill at look, Bold letters "in god we trust"?!?!?!? The same holds true for "moral legislation" The country is being run by reglious leaders. No president could get elected without the christian vote. Therefore, the pres, senators and congressmen all take the reglious community into account when deciding how to vote on bills and laws. It ain't right but it is true.

I agree with idgaf. Despite the proclamation of "Sepearation of church and state" its impossible to actually seperate them. That would effectively be seperating people from their religion, and that just wouldnt take, lol.
