Should RPGs have sequals?

It depends on how concisely the story was wrapped up in the first one. IF some plot threads were left unfinished, then perhaps yes. But if everything was all wrapped up, and done with, then no. OTherwise, it'll seem like they were purposely finding a way to make it, lol.
If an RPG should have a sequel, they should plan it that way from day 1. But, not in the way they did .hack (which was just for money).

yeah, I see your point but seaqula ususally make the 1st one less speical or ruin the story IMO

Well, you could make it so that there are 3 different storylines, but still have something tying them all together...instead of one continuous storyline over multiple games.

I know what you mean, but some sequals are better. Most people prefer Suikoden 2 over 1 (although I've never played it).

That is the only Seaqual I like better than the original
S2 is just the bestest though

Sequals are good if the game in question was open ended enough to have one.

yeah I don't have a problem with sequals. Especially with games that are so intwined and leave you waiting for the next one like Suikoden.

I dont think that RPGs should be sequals if they are of a game thats a series like FF...theres so many games already and they go and make sequals just to get alot more money when they know damn well it would be better to make a new game with a new story.....anyways i dont like the idea of them

Sometimes sequels are good, like in Suikoden, other times, sequels are bad, like in FF. (Although I did enjoy FFX-2)

RPGs make the best sequels, because when you make a sequel you're continuing with a storyline, and most games just want to start fresh with new gameplay and everything.

Yeah, RPGs do make good seuqels. But like's been said before, unless the story had enough loose ends to MAKE a decent story in the sequel, it wont be very good. Thats why you should plan ahead FOR a sequel, but not make the purpose of the game to set up the story for the sequel. Then the game isnt as good >_<

Sequels (especially FFX-2) can stain the good name the first game had...or make it even better. Unless the game was intended on having a sequel, it should not happen (.hack was meant to have sequels)

All I can say is it depends on what the original game was like.

Yeah, why not, there already doing it, look a FF7, a movie coming out and DotC which are decendants of FF7. Anyway, yeah, there should sequals if a game is good, if sucks it doesn't make much sense to be making a sequal.

I think FF7 is a good example of over doing sequals.

I wonder why they just started doing so many FF7 sequals all of a sudden=/ Oh and I still agree with my last post that I made over a year ago:D

If they can make money off of it they'll do it... that's pretty much it.
Unless it's a game that's ment to be a series when it's started.
