Elkview Middle School Principal Robert Paxton said today that he alerted police Tuesday after hearing reports from several parents that someone was "stalking" their children.
Trooper C.E. Stump said that police have a "suspect of interest" in the case. The individual hasn't violated any laws with his behavior and they cannot file any charges, Stump said.
Parents report the man slowly trails female students from the rural bus stops to their homes. When the man was spotted by a girl's father, he retreated quickly, Paxton said.
Stump said that three separate incidents have occurred throughout Frame last week.
Authorities said the man owns a dark green, late model Toyota pickup with aluminum wheels on the front tires and chrome wheels on the back tires. Witnesses have not been able to spot a license plate number, Paxton said.
To address safety concerns, Paxton sent an e-mail to his staff describing the individual and his vehicle.
Teachers were encouraged to tell female students to walk home with extra caution. The school also has increased security, Paxton said.
"We aren't trying to start a panic, but we want our students to be safe," Paxton said.
Stump said police have increased patrols on the bus routes throughout the Elkview attendance area. Writer Jan Boyles can be reached at 348-7918.
