Well, earlier today (about 2 hours ago, to be precise), i went to my local EB games and purchased the Gamecube title, MGS: Twin Snakes. I just wanted to share my initial thoughts about it with you wonderful GCers. ^_^
Currently, i'm camped out in the box in the truck that is parked in the heliport area; PS1 MGS veterans know it as the location of the SOCOM.
My Rants:
Well, there ARE a few problems and annoyances i've encountered. First of all, the graphics can be a little choppy sometimes. ITs not all that annoying, except in shootouts >_<. Its wont cause you to lose, but nonetheless.
Second, the controls. They take some getting used to, especially for MGS2 veterans. The biggest problem is 1st person mode. It requires you to press the Z button, not the R button. This can be a bit of a strain on your finger at times, as it does not seem the natural button to press. Also, since gamecube controllers lack pressure sensors, in order to put down your weapon w/out firing, you need to press the X button while holding it up to put it down w/out firing (on PS2 you could do that by just slowly releasing the O button).
Third, there is no pause screen, at least not at this point in the game. PRessing start doesnt pause it, which can be annoying sometimes. In order to access the codec, you have to press and hold start, then press A.
None of them are major problems, but they will take some getting used to, especially for PS2 MGS veterans. I'd recommend playing it on Very easy, or Eassy, the first time through, even if you played MGS on PS1 (purely for the reason of getting used to the controls).
However, enough of the bad stuff. Those small things aside, it is an excellent game thus far. The only reason i mentioned those things is to inform you about its quirks. It is an excellent game, and i would highly recommend it for any fan of the genre.
