Character names

What names do you usually use for characters in RPGs? Do you have a constant set of names you use? Or is it a spur-of-the-moment thing. Or, do you just keep the default names?

First of all, i sometimes name em, and sometimes not. Some games i just keep the default names, and some i change em.

When i DO change em, i usually use names of characters from my book, but not always.

Hero = Lancet or Johnny (John if less than 6 letters allowed)
Heroine = Krissy (Kris if less than 6 letters allowed)

Jake, Cecilia, Jeremy, Melissa, James, Alison, Cal, Sieg, Evan, and others, depending on letter allotment and other things.

I usually use the default names the first time I play it. Sometimes I use my name and my friends names, and sometimes I use names from mythology.

Usually Kenny...as for the others. It depends what they look like. Or perhaps there persona. Then I will decide which name it fits. Mostly from people I know online and some from real life.

One funny thing i did w/ names was on FF9. I gave em all high-class counding names, lol.

Zidane --> Sirius
Garnet --> Elayne
Stenier --> Chester
Vivi --> Samuel
Freya --> Ericha
Eiko --> Gloria
Amarant --> Arthur

I dunno how i came up with em all, i just did

Oh, and one time, a friend of mine named Cloud (FF7, duh) Farter +

I alway keep them the same

I always keep the names the same except on games where they make you give them a name like Disgaea. I usually use mythological names or names of family and friends.

I remember i used to use the names of my 4th grade classmates for FF6, but that was so long ago, i forget most of em. All i remember was:

Terra = Julie
Celes = Autumn
Edgar = Patrik

i normally name them something stupid, specially when their reused.

you get the jist, its a meaningless and pointless thing but it does get better when they say their uber powerful.

That reminds me my friend is stupid. When playing ff8 he thought it would be cool to name Squall Sefier so throught the game Sefier was all "I am going to kill you Sefier"

Seifer... I usually call the main character Tom (Tom=me) but it doesnt bother me that much. The Flaming Queer eh? Hahaha..

sorry but you only need 4 characters for ff9 and Amarant isn't one of them. I think you should all replay it and name him Queer. I'm trying to come up with other names to make it funnier.

The only character that didn't over act was...was...Beatrix. Beatrix was just so grr *swoons*

i usually keep them regular but sumtimes i rename them to my nick name, Trav, or sumtimes of friends

My problem was getting him to learn skills. He comes too late in the game to really build up. He's pretty much useless compared to the others.

I named Steiner, Grody. That was kinda funny but in no way near The Flaming Queer.

what don't you like about Amarant?

Amarant is like the kinda person who should not even be a main character or an accessory. He is wishy washy, a pansy and a waste of effort.

1) past experiences lead him to want to kill Zidane, any sane person after getting spanked by monkey boy would want to kill him even more, not want to butt fck him all night long.

2)He went from burly death guy when you first saw him with Brahne to wimpy bastard who moaned and bitched before offering 2 lines that were semi decent on Terra, in other words his lines during the game stunk like rotten horse manure and the character trait and line that was chosen for him did not suit his character.

3)His abilities and choice of weaponry, were less then adequate, half of his weapons deal elemental damage or damage that can be absorbed by many enemies leaving him to only use his abilities, while they were above par later on he is negated as a secondary character.

4)Obviously he has a shady past and is well known around Treno and such yet there were only refferences and i believe 2 flashbacks associated with him, leaving his character shallow.

5)Did i mention he was uber gay?

I don't rename any charatcers if they have default names. In other circumstances I name the girl Manda and the guy Paul. Lol, that's usually if I can't come up with anything cooler. But with Suikoden 1 the hero is always Tir and S2 he's Riou. Although, one time my brother changed everyone's... up to a certain point... name in FFVI. Let's see if I can remember:
Locke = Rape (Locke: The last thing she called out before she died was... my name...
Rachel: RAPE!!!)
Terra = Sandra
Celes = Strats
Edgar = Halts
Sabin = Ideas
Shadow = Greed
After that he stopped, but Taryn accidentally deleted Strago's name and guessed that he was Strang. Close enough.

i keep the names given to me first or so time around, lately when i re-start a game i have used some EF usernames :D

I tend to use my name and the names of some of my friends, as well as names of characters that I've made up in stories I've written... not all of which are that original...

Some examples : Tessa (Me), Laura (my girlfriend ^_^), Scyion, Kio, Shin, Diana, Kyosuke, Cohiba, Neo, Sakura, Eri, Rena....

I keep with default names. If I use customized names, I tend to regret half way through the game and it irritates me until I start a brand new one.
