Man returns to find meth lab

When a DeKalb County man returned to his home Sunday afternoon after a long business trip to Idaho, he found an unwelcome surprise — a meth lab.
While the homeowner was away for the last few months, someone had apparently set up the lab in his Mentone-area trailer.
“The owner of the trailer had been staying in Idaho for business and had not been back to his home since Thanksgiving,” DeKalb County Drug Task Force Commander Darrell Collins said. “When he returned Sunday, he found his home had been broken into and someone had been cooking methamphetamine in his home.”
Collins said the task force got a call from the homeowner around noon Sunday.
“He had just returned home to find that an active meth lab was in his living room,” Collins said.
It took around four to five hours to cleanup the lab, according to Collins, because there were so many chemicals used in manufacturing at the scene.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department also assisted helped with the clean up.
“No arrests have been made at this point. No one was at the scene when we got there and we are looking into information,” Collins said.
