Beer thief comes up dry
By Sun staff/wire services
A thirsty crook's attempt to rob an Orleans Beer Store by breaking the front window with a baseball bat was thwarted when he was scared off by a clerk on Friday. The attempted smash-and-grab happened shortly after 9 p.m. at a busy Jeanne d'Arc Blvd. plaza when a masked man broke the window with a bat and reached for six-packs of beer.
However, after spotting the clerk the suspect fled, escaping in a stolen black van with tinted windows. The robber is described as 6-feet tall and wearing a puffy black jacket. Anyone with information is asked to call Ottawa police at 236-1222, ext. 3566.
