Solaris was using them to keep track of everyone, and record their genetic codes and potential abilities. They used them to identify possible threats, and to find people to use in the gebler forces.

Yeah, in CC, the Records of Fate are used by FATE to make decisions for people in El Nido, so that they wont interfere with the history of the world.

Everyone has listed the games I thought were overrated
Underrated:Suikoden Series and Valkyrie Profile
Chicken Little
02-17-2004, 05:14 AM
Koudelkha was like a prequel to Shadow hearts since she appears and her 'offpring' is a side character.
Basically the controls are based around the judgement ring in which diff colour hits ie light orange to green determine hit strength. If you get 3 green hits you get a good great perfect and of course maximum hit for that turn. Thats also used in sidequests and stuff but it gets ridiculously fast (specially 10x speed insane)
Basic storyline is a priest is murdered by a guy named Kevin Bacon who practices the dark arts, the priests daughter Alice is travelling under police escort to err japan i think it is and so is our hero Yuri who is of Sino/Jap decent. He hides a secret from the world, something that was passed down from his dad who worked for the Jap secret police. The story pics up in the train as Kevin Bacon attacks to take Alice.
Its quite frankly one of the best rpgs ive played, nice visuals, great storyline, deep characters and a good guy that isnt handsome, that isnt buff or any of the stereotypes. This game is a must buy in my case and im lucky i had money and decided to pick it up.
Control wise it doesnt piss you off that much, granted it took me a lil bit to master the judgement wheel but other then that the use of the analogue stick and the buttons is relatively easy.

Overrated = FF7, most FFs are (ie. 10) but 7 is the most.
Underrated = LoD, Suikoden series.
I played Shadow Hearts. I didn't like it THAT much. How is it a sequel to Koudelka? That makes NO sense whatsoever... what? Kevin Bacon? Umm... wasn't he a real person? Anway, the gameplay outside of battles is REALLY annoying. The circle thing inside battles is... JUST fine, but outside it's annoying as hell.

not a direct sequel but there are more then just cameos of people from Koudelka appearing in SH so its more like an association between the two. And in SH Kevin bacon undergoes a bit of a twist with the storyline so that is debatable of him being a real person or not. And hows the gameplay annoying? Its smooth flowing, connected and adopts a somewhat better world map allowing for extra areas and sidequests to be done in an instant instead of wasting 5 hours starting at a green field or spending half the game with your thumb up your ass asking for directions.

02-19-2004, 11:34 PM
by all means it isnt for every rpg gamer, i mean i at least rent games that i consider buying to get a feel for the gameplay since theres only so much you can see from screenshots and reviews and stuff. I supppose if you like happy crap then you'll probably hate the game, and also if you dont like the movement like some ppl already stated then you may dislike it also.

Happy games... *shudders* If a game is all happy-happy then it shouldn't be a game. At least 50% of it should be doom and gloom, but not 100% PLEASE.
Lancet Jades
02-21-2004, 01:54 PM
I agree with teh silly girl ^_^. The game needs a certain level of doom and gloom for it to be good. IT also needs a good amount of happy-happy (and no, that cult doesnt count) ^_^. IF tis all one or the other, its no fun >_<

WA1 doesn't get the credit is deserves. It's a very good game.

Star ocean 2 and Azure dreams being underrated.
FF Series and Xenogears/saga series being overrated.

Xenogears isnt overrated (except by lathypoo). And i agree, SO2 is vastly underrated. The Ten Wise Men pwned. Especially Berle, with his Meta-guard, lol.

Well, I'm one of the people who does not have Xenogears on my top 5, heck even top 10 RPG list. :p
But Gears is way better then Saga.
No point in an RPG if you can't travel elsewhere with your own free will. An example would be games like Xenosaga.

Overrated= FF10. Not really that good, even WITH Dark Aeons.
Underrated=Shadow Hearts series. True gems, but criminally underrated (even though the last two got good reviews).
*sigh* Why isn't this ''Xenogears'' (or the ''Xenosaga'') released on PAL? The more time I spend on EF, the more I realise how many games aren't released over here.

Shining Force is a great strategy rpg on the genesis that hardly gets any recogniton. as for overrated, I can't really think of anything.
Rainbow Dash

You cant even argue this one. Quest for Glory, esp 2, is ridiculously underrated.
Overrated... I can't think of any...

Hmmm. Actually most of the rpgs I bought lately stood up to the hype they got. Star ocean 3 has been a blast, Shadow hearts covenant is excellent, and the Digital devil games rock hardcore.
Actually I'd say the rpg that disappointed me most was FF x-2. It's not an awful rpg, just not my taste. First time I played it I put it down after a half hour. Second time I played it I tolerated it one whole hour. After that, it collected alot of dust.

Thats because Xenogears is a gem in itself, not just the series. Its a rather rare game even here.
Most Overrated: *Here come the stones* Suikoden and Most games SquareEnix make
Personaly im not sure how Suikoden could be under rated since I hear almost as much about that series as I do any other Final Fantasy... Suikoden has a rather large fanbase it just dosnt seem like it. I personaly just dont like it.
Most Underrated= Most if not all of Nippon Ichis games *Mostly Disgaea and La Pucelle*

Suikoden used to be underrated, but lately, I'd have to say its not truly underrated anymore. However, that might also be an effect of hanging around a lot of hardcore RPGers like the gang here at EF >.>

Suikoden is still middle tier in popularity. It's known as a quality rpg series but it's not at the top pedestal seen by everyone. I know of at least 15 people I know that if I asked what Suikoden was they'd look at me and shrug.
The first shadowhearts was nearly unheard of until the second game proved its pimp slapping potential without a doubt. This was simply because though the first game was great the graphics were ps-1 quality so snobs wouldn't give it the time of day. Still despite awesome reviews even the second game is a bit of an obscurity to the popular main stream.
I agree with Lath as well. When Nocturne hit the scene I was under the impression people would talk about it feverently for a long time yet now not only is it hard to find...but it's nay impossible to find people that discuss it.

Indeedy. lol. Sorry lades not with it today. It is well known enough to not be a cult game . Speaking of which Parasite eve 1 and 2 went out as silent bumps in the night...even though the first was even advertised on tv.
As much as I like chrono cross I'd say it was over-rated. There was "alot" of hype on the internet before it hit shelves and in my opinion it wasn't as good as chrono cross.

Yeah, it's hard to find anyone who plays SMT games. We should make a forum dedicated to the massive number of three (me, Slug and savior) EFers here that play it.
In my mind, the reigning champion of RPGs, Star Ocean 2 has been beaten, mauled and devoured by Digital Devil Saga 1. God, that game's so good it must be illegal.
