I"m not going to say everything that way everyone can add a little bit to it. The one who created FF goes by the name of Hironobu Sakaguchi. The reason the games are called Final Fantasy is because Squaresoft was a struggling company and when this project came along they put all of the money they had left into this game. They called it "Final Fantasy" because if it didnt sell well it would be the last thing Squaresoft ever did.
Nobuo Umetsu was the main composer for FF 1-9 He composed FFX but had help from two other square composers(Hamauzu, Nakano)
Yohitaka Amano was the main artist for FF1-6,9 Tetsuya Nomura took over with FF7.
Well that's some background information anyway

They're one of the series of games that most conventional rpgs are based on (along with Dragon Warrior). None of them, with the exception of X-2 are direct sequals, so it really doesn't matter which one you play first. If you do decide to start playing them, the one you start with depends on what you look for in a game. If you like a challenging strategy game play Final Fantasy Tactics, If you like a very deep character involved story play Final Fantasy 6, If you're a glutton for graphics play Final Fantasy X... etc...

I would start with old school FF or at least FF7, that away when you play them the graphics keep getting better. Although with any FF you can't go wrong, I envy you a little, there so many choices for you to decide on. I'm limited to the few old school I haven't played and FF12, which won't be out til next year.

I didn't. It's an okay FF game, but I don't think it's the best. My pesonal favorite is Final Fantasy 6. There are roms of that one, so it should be easy to get your hands on.

FF7 is great. It doesn't have great, awesome, graphics like the FF8+ games, but the gameplay is pretty decent. The mini sidequest are fun as well. Such as breeding chocobos, have them in a race, etc.
You should also try out FF Tactics. It looks like one of those old style games but the storyline and gameplay is awesome. Plus the job system is very fun. Since you are able to select over 15 types of job classes. As well as get monster to fight on your side.

well, being i know what kind of gamer you are, i really dont think its a good idea to start with FF7, or FFt for that batter
as sorry as i am to say this, you might start with FFTA :lancy or FFCC but im not letting you use my GC so HA
im not sure really.. FF series is somthing that you have to go in useing the game of your type, the closes one really is FFCC.
FF9 (the one with the jump robe game lol) may be the best bet on the PS1 FF's for you.. and being your sis has a PS2 you might try FFX
but i also know that you do play some SNES games, SO you might like FF6 for PS1 being it started out on SNES...
FF6 is my all time fav, but i've never really been one to say that it is a good one to start on..
we will talk about it more and i'll let you try more of them out to seee wht you like the best.
