December 8, 2009 - An upcoming issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has printed the first ever review of Square-Enix's Final Fantasy XIII. It seems, however, the company has come up short of the highly sought after perfect 40/40 score.
Set for release in March 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America, Final Fantasy XIII has received a 39/40, one point shy of earning the magazine's highest honor, according to FF13.net.
Three of the four reviewers gave Final Fantasy XII a 10, praising the title's beautiful graphics, gameplay, characters and movie cutscenes. One reviewer, however, scored it a 9, saying:
"There's a few niggling issues like battle damage being difficult to see, and the screen being cluttered, but the amount of enjoyment this game offers more than makes up for it. You'll be drawn into the world with visual, aural, and story aspects. I have a bit of resistance calling this an "RPG-like RPG" however."
For comparison, Famitsu gave SEGA's Bayonetta a perfect 40/40 score earlier this year. But we don't think that will have much effect on Final Fantasy XIII's sales. The title is set for release next week in Japan.
