http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/buzz-log-disney-black-princess.htmlThe new Disney fairy tale movie, " The Princess and the Frog" has a familiar storyline. (Girl kisses frog. Weird stuff happens.) But the look is new: The debut of Disney's first African American princess. Ever. The animated musical opens this week in New York and Los Angeles (and everywhere next month) and already Web searches on Yahoo! have grown over 100% in the last 30 days.

The story is set in Jazz Age New Orleans, with this princess-in-the-rough working as a waitress. She is only royal in her mind, and dreams of opening a restaurant in the French Quarter. Check out the preview.

Aside from breaking a race barrier (Disney's own), the animated flick is a throw-back to another era: The movie is hand-drawn, with zydeco-style songs by Randy Newman and stars Broadway singer Anika Noni Rose as the princess, Tiana, and queen of daytime Oprah Winfrey as the voice of her mom. And, of course, there are the toys. NPR reports that Tiana toys are already extremely popular with the kids. A new cash cow for Disney, perhaps?

Early reviews are positive. Time magazine calls the holiday offering a "start-to-finish delight." Entertainment Weekly glows that the G-rated movie is "a fresh twist on the classic fairy tale." Filmcritic.com notes that while the cartoon is a visual feast, it serves up little along the theme of race or class. However, images might speak stronger than words in this case. As Filmcritic puts it, "If they're not careful, 'like a Disney movie' might once again cease to be a pejorative phrase."

Still haven't seen it. Anyone here seen it?

I know the dude who is the director. My dad went to high school with him and they were friends and so I got tickets for a free showing because John Musker is cool like that.

...what's the big deal?

"We're racial profiling! LOOK AT US, LOOK AT USSSSSSSSSSSSSS"

Seriously now, Disneys been reinventing themselves how many years and each time it's just "oh lets turn the character into a car!" "no no a robot!" "maybe an alien!" "A sponge?" "I like carrots!" and it's been same old same old of perseverance over odds or finding true love and exhaust fumes (looking at you sentient car loving fucks! "put it in neutral baby so so we can roll!").

Black chick kisses a frog gets a prince, bitch lives happily ever after after some run in with some magical entity who fails dismally.
*rewind 20 years*
White chick kisses a frog gets a prince, bitch lives happily ever after after some run in with some magical entity who fails dismally.
*40 years into the future we go*
Ethiopian chick eats a frog craps a prince, bitch lives happily ever after after some run in with some magical entity who fails dismally. Movie is acclaimed at "breaking the racial barrier that not all Ethiopians are bulemic!"
*40 years on some more*
Cloned Black chick who is her own mother kisses a frog gets a princess who is also bisexual, bitch lives happily ever after after some run in with some magical entity who fails by telling the dildo to screw the wrong person when failing and saying "fuck me...".

Maybe they should get a French princess to kiss that frog. "I'm sorry honey, I got hungry waiting for you to tramsute back to a human. But in other news we invented the wheelchair!"

They are probably just feeding on all of the first African-American president sentiment, that is why they are doing this now.

Anyway maybe it will be a good movie, but I doubt it.

I lol'd.

All i've seen is a commercial on tv over and over >.> They never actually SHOWED the princess on the commercial at all. Hell at first when I heard the name while not looking I thought they said The apprentice and the frog. I'm guessing the movie will barely be about the princess in that case =P

They've been doing this movie since before Obama became President. Animated movies take a long ass time to get made, especially hand drawn ones.

And it is like every other Disney hand drawn musical movie. It will be good. Bank on it.

The movie is about the princess getting turned into a frog. It is about the frog princess and frog prince wanting to get turned back into humans by stopping the evil witch doctor. Trust me, the princess is the main character.

The guy who is the head director, animator, and one of the writers is responsible for all the old Disney movies you probably love, so trust me when I say he won't disappoint.

I definitely want to see this movie. I like Disney Cartoons, though.

Fox and the Hound is probably my all time favorite, from them.
