Rise of the Robots and Barbarians both take the worst fighter ever prize.

no way the Krate for NEs was so bad

you had kick and punch and that it, you couldnt move/duck/jump and kick/punch

basicly only one buttom at a time

Zelphiel
04-17-2004, 02:45 AM
are you talking about a game called Karate Champs. the only things that resemble fighters on the NES that I can think of is that and Kung Fu, and those really aren't fighters. they're beat em' ups like the Double Dragon games.

Chicken Little
04-17-2004, 03:47 AM
oh there was this one game where you prance around as dinosaurs and try and beat the crap out the other dino.

it was pathetic...so i burnt it ^_^'

Zelphiel

it's probably Karate Champs. or Fighting Street... (the first street fighter game).

I didn't think AOF was that bad....

ok, maybe it was... -_-;;

Capcom VS. SNK 2 (Arcade)

Damn controls.

They made me want to empty an AK clip into it.

lol... I thought it was. Art of Fighting/Fatal Fury etc really wasn't that great until it evolved into KoF. Then it was more than a rival to Street Fighter. Not too many 2D fighters ever grow enough to be considered an equal or superior to SF...

Capcom VS. SNK 2 (Arcade)

Damn controls.

hmm... They've never bothered me before. The standard controls are just like most other SF Arcade machines. Maybe the one at your arcade is just an upgraded out of some other game. Or they just rigged up a controller board for it... =/

Pinkie Pie

hum... I really liked CVS2... and I didn't think that the arcade controls were bad at all...

And yeah, Kaiser, I agree, FF wasn't really any good until the third game or so... same thing with AOF....

but Garou rocked!! ~_^

No, standard. The buttons kept-on sticking, like someone poured a slushy over them...

Zelphiel
10-09-2004, 11:18 PM
ahh... that would be because the people working there weren't doing their job maintaining the game. Just start bitching about it until it gets done.

I'm pretty sure it was at a rest-stop on the way to Tennessee.

I don't think that really counts, because the controls. So, I'm going to say Barbarian, PS2.

Another really bad fighting game was the first Fatal Fury. Sorry SNK fans but that series didn't start to get decent until the second game... and the characters from it really didn't start to shine until the KoF days.

Pinkie Pie
04-04-2005, 08:08 PM
The first Fatal Fury wasn't bad for it's time, though... it wasn't a great game, but it was one of the first fighting games to come out at the time that wasn't a complete SF2 clone and actually did well.

By today's standards, it sucks of course, but it actually was a pretty good game at the time.

Zelphiel
04-04-2005, 08:13 PM
that's true I guess... but compared to Street Fighter 2 Turbo, which came out the same year I believe... it just couldn't cut it.

The whole switching sides thing was kinda strange for me. I got used to it and then stopped playing, and of course for Guilty Gear Isuka I had to relearn it. It's a bit different in Isuka though...

I can't think of one that I didn't like. Every fighting game I've played, I've quite enjoyed. Though, when I was younger, I couldn't stand Tekken 3, I hated it with great fiery passion! But now...Now I like it...But that's like all I can think of.

Agreed. Shaq Fu takes the cake for me. Other than that, I'd have to say Primal Rage.

the earlier bloody roars sucked bad too

Zelphiel
10-04-2005, 12:10 PM
primal rage wasn't that bad. I don't think it qualifies as the worst ever anyway... there are games that are infinately worse than that.

at least in primal rage you could eat the cavemen worshiping the fighters to recover health. :P

world heroes got a us snes release. :P

it more than qulaifies in the piss poor category, lol.

it was so bad that SNK couldn't even save it when they took it over and made World Heroes Perfect Jet.

you'll see what I'm talking about when you play it. it's one of the worst street fighter ripoffs ever made.

William
10-04-2005, 01:39 PM
Ah, thanks for the link, but I already have every SNES rom on this computer ;p

Just played it, and World Heroes II. I just cannot believe they put out 4 different games. The two I did just play really sucked, but at least they had some interesting characters. Hahaha. A football player and a pirate. That's great.

Zelphiel
10-04-2005, 03:31 PM

Zelphiel

:P

another good one is www.emuparadise.org

anyway... a list of shitty fighters you can try... aside from world heroes...

-Ninja Master's (yes... I know the punctuation is wrong... but it's the actual game title)

-War Gods

-Plasma Sword

-Ehrgiez: God Bless the Ring

-Art of Fighting (sorry snk fans... but the first one was mediocre at best)

-Hey Punk R U Tuff Enough

-Time Killers

that should keep you occupied for a little while, lol

William

-Ehrgiez

That game was the fighting game with the Final Fantasy characters thrown in right? I hated it if so. It just seemed as if it was a desperate attempt to draw FFVII fans into the game to make a little extra money.

The worst fighting game I've played would have to be the Virtua Fighter series. For some reason I don't like it opposed to Tekken which I deem is much better (my cousin says their the same) but I feel more flowable in Tekken compared to VF

Zelphiel
01-11-2006, 10:42 AM
A lot of people don't like VF because most of the chains are so complicated, but as far as realism in a fighting game goes VF gets the prize. I prefer Tekken myself mainly because I have more experience playing it than VF but that never stops me from throwing down with Lei Fei, Lau, and Shun. :thumb

Wow.. I had never thought I'd ever hear that. I personally feel that Virtua Fighter is one of the greatest fighting game series of all time. It has a far more deep and in-depth fighting engine than the Tekken series does. Many gamers and reveiwers have said the same thing. But this isn't a topic about what's the best, so I won't go crazy and describe 'why' I personally think it's so great.
On topic, I'd say Thrill Kill. Not only was the game horrible (piss-poor controls, jagged, blocky graphics, horrible fighting system) but it was never officially released outside of a small handful of spirited away copies. This was due to it both being too violent in a unrealistic way (it was a gorefest in every punch - but not in a good way- ) and for just being so horrible. It was never truly considered a "game good enough for release". But I'm mentioning it because it technically WAS finished and a few copies did get out despite their intentions to keep it under wraps.

isn't that the fighter that made the cover of psm right before it's release was cancelled?

It's possible, I suppose. I've rarely read PSM so I can't give a yes or no answer, though.

I don't know how I missed this thread. >.> Anyway I have to say Battle Assault 3 featuring Gundam Seed. >.> THe mechs looks horribly shiney and the moves you can do are near bloody impossible to use. Only way of ever getting them is....ZOMG! RANDOM BUTTON MASHING!

Zelphiel
08-15-2006, 11:11 AM
you sure about that? I just looked up a movelist and it doesn't look too complicated. unless the timing in that game is really fucked up. the combos look a lot like how Tekken's combos are set up.

I am totally down with number one! XD My god... horrible...

In my opinion, there were some things in this review that weren't very well thought-out. For example, at 05:22, Craig and Tom gave us 2 rules about Street Fighter:

1. Never use digitized graphics.
2. Never ever be in 3D.

What is so funny about this is... what happened a year later? STREET FIGHTER 4, WITH DIGITIZED 3D GRAPHICS! XD

Personally, I don't have to agree with reviews. In fact, I shouldn't have to agree with them. Reviews are always up for debate, that is what makes online commenting fun. And what I don't agree on is the word {never}. That is a very powerful word, and should never be used jokingly. As the elementary teacher in THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS said, {Never say never kids!}

Digital visuals and 3D renders can work, those are not the problems. The problem is how companies utilize them. Companies can ruin a game's graphics in either 2D, 3D, or both.

For instance, the Sega Dreamcast classic {Sonic Adventure 2} featured Sonic and his friends in 3D graphics, and with talking voices. Although it can be weird to play the game in 3D as compared to 2D Sonic games for the Sega Genesis, does that make the game unworthy? Actually, no... the formula worked great, and Sega has been making more 3D Sonic games ever since.
