So, my parents told me that for a graduation/college gift I'm getting a laptop. Price is not a concern, as they say get it with all the necessary features and all that shit.
My problem is I know jack about computers and even less about laptops. So, I'd appreciate any help in the matter, or suggestions as to which kind of laptop is right for me.
Internet is, of course, a requirement, but I dunno if laptops are all wireless or not.
Help a Droog out, please?

WOW, for a laptop in general, especially one with those specs, that's an incredibly low price!
I'll second Nick's suggestion, unless you want to spend 2.5k on a custom built one with 4GB of ram, quad core, and all that shit.

That seems a fair choice.

Laptops built by Dell and HP come nowhere near those specifications for that price. It is of a decent size, packs quite a few things in that, really, looks like a good piece of hardware. I don't know about gaming, cause that drains battery life. Reviews seem fair. And of course, ASUS quality (Top notch).
That'd be my suggestion, try poking around on Newegg, but from my preliminary search, that'd be my recommendation.
Happy hunting!
EDIT: Also, all modern laptops have WLAN capabilities. Any laptop that doesn't have wireless...Isn't a laptop.

Uh, I have a Dell Inspiron E1705... It gets the job done? Haha. I don't really know that much about computers... I wish I had a smaller one, I can tell you that much. But, I don't really know...

I just need to get WLAN in my house or something then.

WLAN = Wireless Local Area Network. It's wireless, basically. If your router supports it, you're fine.

I don't know if it does or not.
As I said, I'm no good with computers and stuff.

Whats the brand name and model #? (Model # might be on the bottom of the router!)

Well I can't really beat Nick's all around suggestion. I bought myself an Acer during my senior year for a pretty good price based upon my specs, but it doesn't pack near the ability of that one. Also, you'll definitely need wireless ability in college regardless of whether your home has it or not.

As did one of my best friends. Back when 120 GB laptops were considered amazing. It can run WoW without too much lag but doesn't exactly run Oblivion all that well.
And Droog, there's a pretty easy way to check if you have Wireless. If you have a wireless device (like a Nintendo DS) Try seeing if your router broadcasts its SSID. Or you can take the other, possibly faster yet possibly fruitless method (because I tried this in the past and couldn't find shit) of Searching online for your Router's model number, as Nick was suggesting.
I still say $999 for that Laptop is an amazing deal, sure my computer has better specs (naturally desktops are more powerful than laptops) but if I had the choice between that laptop and this Desktop I'd take the Laptop 0_o

Just go with something that has a good battery life and doesn't get too hot.
It'll be more useful than a gaming laptop if this is going to be used in college.

Yeah, I've had my laptop since last July and my battery is shot already. "No battery is detected" is the message I get & as soon as I unplug it, the laptop will shut off. Haha. :)

OKAY OKAY STATUS UPDATE.
So, I got my laptop today. It's cool lookin' and all that. Only problem is....I cannot connect to the interwebs! Now, I don't believe my current internet setup is wireless. I'm connected to a 2Wire DSL router, I think. So, am I correct in assuming the only way to get online with the laptop is by connecting it to the DSL router which would not give me wireless or whatever. Although, looking in the 2Wire box there seems to be something with WIFI on it, though where it goes I haven't the foggiest.
A brochure for my dorm said the rooms have ethernet jacks. Now, I'm curious as to whether or not this will provide adequate internet for when I am down there in a few weeks.
Man, I am no good with this computer stuff.
