I don't know if my brother was just muddled up and got confused between Wireless Router and Modem...

But he seems to be under the impression...That our Modem is blocking out wireless.

Now, let me explain...Our Wireless Router is an Internal Belkin thingy...With just the Antenna sticking out of the PC.

Our Modem is supplied by Virgin Media, these two companies have nothing to do with each other...And although Virgin allow wireless...They do not supply routers.

So...Is it possible that our MODEM is stopping our Wireless Router from working?

My brother heard from someone in work...That "The thing with the flashing lights" was broken and that's why his friend couldn't get the wireless to work.
I've seen Routers with "flashing lights" but my brother obviously see's this as the modem.
And when he asked...His friend apparently said that it was his modem...

I'm not exactly computer smart...But I know my way around one in the basic sense...
I don't quite understand how our Modem could mess up our wireless...

My computer was also made in 02-03...And our wireless goes up and down...Sometimes it works and suddenly it doesn't...I just put it down to the fact that this PC is practically dead.

I don't know why the modem and wireless router would be interfering, however the flashing lights thing is indeed a modem. If the modem is broken, you can't get online at all.

Internal Belkin router? So all the other computers connect to that one for the internet? Because most routers now have to plug ethernet directly into the cable modem, you can tell if it's a cat5 cable, they're usually blue. But um, Are you sure it's not a wireless adapter to connect to the modem or router? There should be two boxes in the same spot, a modem and a router, both should have lights of some kind, and should be relatively close to each other. Sounds like your internal thing is simply a wireless adapter card.

As for connectibility, no, not unless they cut off your service is it really possible that the cable can't see the router, but there may be interference between the computers and the router. Or they aren't configured correctly to begin with, including network passkeys or a firewall.
