Famitsu Weekly reports this week that famous producer Hironobu Sakaguchi has founded his own development company called Mist Walker. The company is looking forward to developing its own console role-playing game, possibly for next-generation hardware, and other sorts of game concepts.

Sakaguchi compares his studio to a Hollywood production company consisting of a small group of elite creators. He mentioned people like artists Yoshitaka Amano and Takehiko Inoue (the first the famous Final Fantasy character designer, the last the artist of popular comic series as Vagabond and Slam Dunk) as potential future Mist Walker material.

Since the financial escapade that was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within Sakaguchi wasn't given any position of real importance at Square-Enix anymore. Although he did receive producer credit for Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XI he had little to no real involvement in the actual development of the games.

I think it's really cool. I'm sure someone with his stature in the business can get almost anyone he wants to work for him.

Yeah when I heard Yoshitaka Amano might work for him I was taken aback(huge fan of his art:D0...I had no idea they were giving sakaguchi such minor positions at square after the movie loss. I'm glad he formed his own company.

yeah... I'll bet they're kicking themselves for screwing him over like that now that he's making his own games. hell, if it wasn't for him Square wouldn't even exist today.

who knows... maybe Square was doing the same thing to him that they did with the Xeno guys. Some of the FF games may have been very different from what he intended...

Aye...they shouldn't let one screwup like Spirits Within (which I still thought was a good movie) put Sakaguchi on the back burner like that at Square. I mean, friggin'ell, Sakaguchi SAVED squaresoft! If it wasn't for their last-ditch effort back in the 80's, better known to us all as the Final Fantasy (Final cuz they were broke if it fizzled), Square would just be one of those game companys nobody hears about anymore, like Ultra or Jaleco.

And the thought of Sakaguchi working alongside those guys at Monolith...putting the classic touch to the Xeno series...*drool*

I agree. You make a very good point indeed. If it wasn't for the first Final Fantasy, Square would not even exist today. Seems like the company forgot about that. >_>
