Cartoon Network New Media is preparing to deliver “an interactive video and gaming experience to broadband-enabled consoles” called MEGA Series in late 2007 to early 2008.

Developed at AFI’s Digital Content Lab, MEGA Series content will be based on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim shows. The service will be compatible with PlayStation 3 and Wii and content will be accessible via streaming from their web browsers utilizing Adobe Flash.

“Developing applications like MEGA Series is an important complement to our existing online and mobile businesses and a part of Cartoon Network’s digital growth strategy,” said Paul Condolora, senior vice president and general manager of Cartoon Network New Media.

“We’d like to think our efforts effectively demonstrate how the console browser can be utilized as a new distribution platform,” added Ross Cox, senior director of entertainment products, Cartoon Network New Media.

Lisa Osborne, supervising producer of the AFI Digital Content Lab, said, “Creating a product that runs on both a PS3 and a PC truly fulfilled the 'build once, broadcast everywhere' goal that the team set out to accomplish.”

Cartoon Network's interactive New Media department has announced it will be pushing its game distribution to consoles with "MEGA Series," an application that will let users play its output through the Wii and PS3's web browsers.

The browser application, developed at AFI’s Digital Content Lab and expected to launch in late 2007 or early 2008, will, Cartoon Network says, make it the first TV network "to use Flash to uniquely reach the massive console audience."

The network's output, which will cover both Cartoon Network and Adult Swim franchises, will utilize streaming video and be delivered episodically to console browsers.

No announcements have yet been made on just how the new output will be controlled on its respective platforms, with embedded Flash output as yet unable to recognize a console's dedicated controllers outside simulation of a standard mouse.

Said Cartoon Network New Media senior VP and GM Paul Condolora, “Developing applications like MEGA Series is an important complement to our existing online and mobile businesses and a part of Cartoon Network’s digital growth strategy. Not only does MEGA Series extend our reach, but more importantly provides an opportunity to offer a unique content and user experience for our audience.”
