Paris Hilton donates porn proceeds to charity. She settles legal disputes with camera-wielding ex Rick Salomon by Gary Susman
Paris Hilton seems to have found a silver lining in the cloud of her porn video scandal. According to the New York Daily News, Hilton and her camera-wielding ex, Rick Salomon, have settled their pending lawsuits against each other out of court. Plus, the ''Simple Life'' star has earmarked at least some of her settlement for charity.
As part of the settlement, the Daily News reports, Salomon and Red Light District Video, which has been marketing the former couple's 2001 homemade sex video as a 45-minute tape called ''One Night in Paris,'' will pay Hilton $400,000, plus a percentage of the profits. (''Entertainment Tonight'' reported the terms slightly differently, saying that Hilton's reps claim she's not earning any money from the tape but has asked Salomon to donate a portion of its profits to charity.) Also, Salomon has agreed to drop a defamation suit he filed against Hilton and her family, in which he had argued that they falsely accused him of criminal wrongdoing in connection with the making of the video and its leak to the Internet last fall.
The settlement with Salomon is part of Hilton's ''effort to turn this situation into something positive,'' her reps told E! They didn't say who would be the beneficiary of Hilton's largess, except to say that the money would go to ''worthy charities.''
The news comes days after a Los Angeles judge threw out Hilton's $30 million invasion of privacy suit against Kahatani, Ltd., a company that Hilton claimed had been selling the video as a download over the Internet. It was not clear from court documents why the suit had been dismissed, Reuters reports.
