Tuesday 1-May-2007 4:16 PM Pretty much the entire game up for viewing in latest Capcom shot deployment
Testing the limits of our screenshot viewer, we've uploaded 55 (yes, fifty five) new Devil May Cry 4 shots - and the last batch from the game was only released yesterday (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=163111)!
The fourth instalment, in case you missed it, has two main heroes Dante and Nero facing off in the city of Fortuna. Playing as Nero you can use your 'Devil Bringer' ability to grapple and re-arrange enemies, and chain-up potentially endless combos.
Look for it in the shops (hopefully) later this year.

Devil May Cry 4 'Stage 1' HD (http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/11150)
Our nearly hour long play session with Devil May Cry 4 (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/devilmaycry) left us with more questions than answers, but not the typical ones. Even with the press materials in our hands, we weren't left wondering when it was coming out or what the connection between playable characters Nero and Dante was. Our questions were more troubling. Was all that outrage (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/22/loyalists-cry-over-devil-may-cry-on-xbox-360/) worth it? Do people really just love (http://www.joystiq.com/photos/super-paper-mario-wii/230072/) to complain? Was Dennis Dyack right (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/04/30/dennis-dyack-says-nay-to-the-enthusiast-press-again/) all along?
Its predecessor, Devil May Cry 3, launched a year after Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/ninjagaiden) and right alongside Sony's God of War (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/godofwar): two games that redefined how action games should play, much like how the original Devil May Cry did back in 2001. It's a series that had once set the bar and had since been demolished by time.
We're not going to attempt to intuit the future. The bar, as of today, remains unscathed.

It isn't about looks. It isn't about the ridiculously trite circumstances involving the story and characters (Nero and Dante are the new Sora and Roxas). This is about style. It's about evolution. It's about progress in design when the rest of the field has left you in the dust. The aforementioned action titles reminded us why we enjoyed action games to begin with. That yes, it was okay to do nothing but mindlessly slay creatures as long as the encounters were epic, tough as nails and our moves were flashy as hell.
What Devil May Cry 4 lacks is proper flow and in the face of something like Ninja Gaiden it appears archaic at best. Nero isn't the most responsive guy in the world, turning would-be combo orgies into exercises of stop-and-go frustration. Techniques to artificially keep your combos going (the "snatch" hand and pistols) keep the pace at somewhere between molasses and your Sunday drive to Wal-Mart. Even after an "expert demonstration" and countless attempts to make it exciting ourselves, we were left with an empty impression.
And then we remember what Yousuke Hayashi, director of Ninja Gaiden Sigma said regarding (http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/10197) the Devil May Cry series. That in an action game, it's about a battle to the death and the sense of accomplishment when defeating tough foes. That empty feeling we had was a severe lack of accomplishment. Even after slaughtering countless enemies and bosses that we were told "would most certainly kill us" (said producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi), we realized that nothing really put up a fight. They were simply put there for us to slap combos on.
Adrenaline should have been pumping through our veins so hard we'd be sore by morning, but we were blank. That was Devil May Cry 4 and it was completely uninteresting. Watching Nero hop around and slug out another canned attack is like watching Hulk Hogan go for "one more match." We aren't sold when we see him take a punch today, much like we're not sold on DMC4.

No difference between DMC4 next-gen versions (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=163211)
Wednesday 2-May-2007 12:22 PM Capabilities and features in two console versions to be the same, says Capcom
Although the two stars Dante and Nero are apparently very different (even though they look like the same bloke wearing different coats) Capcom says that the two console versions of Devil May Cry 4 will be pretty much identical.
Speaking to IGN, an unnamed DMC4 dev commented: "As far as the Xbox [360] and the PS3 are concerned, the capabilities and the features in the game, we expect will be the same. Our plan is to pretty much make them identical. You may be able to use some of the functionality in the PS3 as like a switch, but nothing spectacular."
So PS3 owners can feel safe in the knowledge that those pesky Xbox types are playing exactly the same game. As for PC gamers; keep your fingers crossed.
Devil May Cry 4, all going well, will be out before the end of the year. Don't forget to check out yesterday's 55 (yes, 55) screenshot bonanza (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=163160)!

Devil May Cry 4 Update (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/793/793492p1.html)
Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi doesn't want system wars.
by Anoop Gantayat (http://xbox360.ign.com/email.html)
June 1, 2007 - Devil May Cry 4 (http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/894/894664.html) producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi has at last spoken out following Capcom's decision to make its big PS3 exclusive multiplatform. Fittingly, Famitsu's all Xbox 360 publication, Famitsu Xbox 360, was the recipient of Kobayashi's most recent comments on the game.
Kobayashi was first asked to comment on how DMC4 became a multiplatform title. "Devil May Cry is an extremely strong name overseas," explained the producer, "so there was of course the business decision that we couldn't exclude the Xbox 360. We're using an engine called Framework for development, and it's extremely easy to have a multiplatform strategy including the PC. You can say that Devil May Cry 4 is the first such offering. With the increase in platforms, we have the chance of more people being able to play the game, so we're also happy as developers."
You might think that having to make DMC4 for three platforms instead of just one would trouble Kobayashi, but that doesn't seem to be the case. On moving the PS3-targeted game to the Xbox 360, he said, "The game engine is shared, so compared to previous hardware, I believe it's easy. However, we've just started with the Xbox 360 version following the announcement, so there's still a ways to go."
Xbox 360 and PS3 owners alike can look forward to the same experience. "The content will be exactly the same," said Kobayashi. "Regardless of which one you buy, you will be able to get the same enjoyment. What's different is perhaps the shape of the controller and graphic peculiarities for each hardware. We wanted to avoid arguments about which one is better."
Moving away from multiplatform differences, the magazine asked Kobayashi if the game is progressing well following last year's playable debut at the Tokyo Game Show. "I believe progress is on the positive side of things, but this is the team's first time with next generation hardware development, so we are faced with a variety of problems and concerns. Clearing those is difficult." With a laugh, he noted that they'd have probably finished the game by now if it were on the PS2.
The game will run at 60 frames per second, Kobayashi reconfirmed. In fact, he considers the framerate a hurdle that the development team has set up for itself, and one that is taking up a good deal of its time.
Kobayashi wouldn't set himself to a release date (although a recent Capcom financial report pretty much confirmed a fiscal 2007 release). He did promise an advanced version at the Tokyo Game Show this September. We'll of course be in attendance, and will let you know how things have changed since last year, hopefully on both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

DMC4: Welcome to the (screenshot) jungle (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=174954)
Friday 2-Nov-2007 4:24 PM Look - it's a new environment! And it's got floating jungle demons in it!
Capcom blatantly knows we haven't had to deal with 40MB worth of screenshots in a while, so it's slapped a colossal collection of Devil May Cry screens into our inbox big enough to take up most of our afternoon in the uploading process. Thanks, Capcom.
The latest shots - if you haven't skipped our blurb and gone straight to the screenshot viewer already - show off a rather lovely jungle level for Nero to shoot and slash his way through.
It's out in February for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It should be wicked.

New Hero for DMC4 (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/730/730818p1.html)
Say goodbye to Dante, hello to...
by Anoop Gantayat (http://ps3.ign.com/email.html)
September 6, 2006 - Dante will take a back seat in the first next-generation entry in the Devil May Cry series. The new issue of Famitsu reveals that Devil May Cry 4 (http://ps3.ign.com/objects/748/748464.html) will feature a new lead in the form of Nero, a character who slightly resembles Dante in that he has white hair and sports a long coat.
Speaking with the magazine, director Hideaki Itsuno stated that the change was made in part to put fans and newcomers on equal ground with the game. One of the worries was that if the game looks too much like a sequel, new players will have a hard time of playing.
The classic Devil May Cry hero will appear in the game as a "mysterious person." From Nero's perspective, Dante is an enemy who appears out of nowhere and kills his allies. Chronologically, the Dante that appears in this game comes after part 1 but before part 2 (the series chronology is 3, 1, 4, 2).

Nine Things You Didn't Know About Devil May Cry 4 (http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200706/N07.0620.1738.49035.htm)
by Billy Berghammer (billy@gameinformer.com)
POSTED: 6/20/2007 5:42 PM
Game Informer Magazine broke the first news on Devil May Cry 4 almost a year ago, and fans of the series are clamoring for any new information about the game. Unfortunately, even with E3 approaching, Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi and the DMC team are remaining tight-lipped. However, we’re quite impatient, so we’ve managed to get a number of tidbits that you may not know about the game from Capcom and Kobayashi-san himself.
1. Dante is not just an unlockable character.
While Kobayashi-san has stated that Dante will be a playable character in Devil May Cry 4, Dante won’t be just an unlockable character after beating the game. “As the story unfolds, Dante will also be made available to play. He is not an unlockable bonus character, but is playable as part of the game’s storyline.”
2. Dante won’t be the only returning Devil May Cry character.
When we asked Kobayashi-san whether or not characters such as Trish or Lady will make appearances, he made it clear that there will be returning cast members. “I can’t reveal who, but there will be characters from the series appearing in the game.” Could that include Vergil, too? “That’s something you’ll have to play the game to find out!” says Kobayashi. It looks like fans interested in Vergil’s involvement (if any) won’t know anything for sure until DMC 4’s release.
3. Nero won’t be getting new weapons
Dante received new weaponry when defeating bosses in DMC3, but the same won’t hold true for Nero. “The focus on Nero won’t be on getting new weapons from bosses, but on powering up the Devil Bringer over the course of the game,” Kobayashi reveals. “The Devil Bringer will have many different abilities that can be used to attack enemies as well as to move around.”
4. The Devil Trigger could return
Although we haven’t seen Nero display any kind of Devil Trigger aptitude, the team hasn’t specifically stated that this feature won’t be in the game. A similar mechanic exists in Nero’s ability to rev up his sword, but Kobayashi tells us that “revving up the Red Queen is more like powering up attacks than a replacement for the Devil Trigger.”
http://www.gameinformer.com/NR/rdonlyres/9DF5306D-35A4-4212-A9B2-FAF89676F0D9/12688/01wberial00.jpg (http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200706/N07.0620.1738.49035.htm)
5. DMC4 will be universally the same difficulty
It’s well known that Devil May Cry 3’s North American version was more difficult than its Japanese counterpart, but that won’t be the case with DMC 4. “Although I wasn’t directly involved with DMC3, from what I know, they made the game more difficult to respond to North American demand for a difficult game,” Kobayashi says. “With DMC4, we plan to keep all of the versions consistent around the world.”
6. Devil May Cry 4 will be identical on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
Kobayashi explains that “there won’t be any differences between the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions.” This is interesting, since Devil May Cry 4’s development was originally focused on the PlayStation 3. Though identical in terms of gameplay, the two iterations will probably differ in the form of online rewards like 360 Achievements and PS3 Trophies.
7. Sixaxis Am Cry
“There are currently no plans to support the Sixaxis controller” Kobayashi states.
8. No online multiplayer
Kobayashi admits that “We don’t currently have any plans for online multiplayer options in DMC 4.” Online, eh? Does that mean local multiplayer is still a possibility? After all, there was a brief boss battle in DMC 3 when the two sons of Sparda could team up, with a second player controlling Vergil.
9. No New Devil May Cry Demo At E3
With the team focusing on releasing Devil May Cry 4, there won’t be a new Devil May Cry 4 demo at E3. However, don’t count out something new for the Tokyo Game Show. The same demo we played at the Capcom Gamers Day will make another appearance. Maybe now we'll be able to beat that pesky boss.

Just three more months until Dante and Nero!

October 31, 2007 - Timed perfectly to make up for Metal Gear Solid's delay to the second quarter 2008, the latest issue of Famitsu reveals that Capcom will be filling in the gap with Devil May Cry 4. Previously without a finalized date, the multiplatform face off with Dante and Nero will hit Japan on 1/31/2008 at a price point of 7990 yen.
Those who buy early will get a special DVD, which will ship in Dante and Nero versions. There's no word on the fate of this collector's item outside of Japan.

Devil May Cry 4 goes premium (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6182327.html)
Capcom spills the details on $79.99 collector's edition package for its upcoming PS3/Xbox 360 action horror game.
By Brendan Sinclair (http://www.gamespot.com/users/Polybren/), GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/)
Posted Nov 5, 2007 5:09 pm PT
Earlier this year, Capcom announced that its upcoming action game Devil May Cry 4 would arrive on the Xbox 360 and PC in addition to the already-announced PlayStation 3 version (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6167678.html). A group of Sony fans took the news as a slight and posted an online petition (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6168044.html) expressing demoralization at the move and pledged not to purchase the game. More than 12,000 people added their names to the petition.
Today Capcom detailed a Collector's Edition option on both platforms that might entice some of those 12,000-plus jilted gamers to pick up the game after all.
While most special edition games are offered at a $10 markup over the standard edition's new release price, the Devil May Cry 4 Collector's Edition is being offered for $79.99, a $20 premium over the regular version. For the extra Jackson, gamers will receive a couple of extra discs, one with the first four episodes of Devil May Cry: The Animated Series (which will be sold separately for $29.99) and one for the PC that includes a "making of" feature, music from the soundtrack, concept art, wallpapers, icons, and screensavers. The Collector's Edition will also come packaged in a "steelbook" case.
Both the regular and collector's edition of Devil May Cry 4 are set to launch in North America on February 5 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's latest coverage (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/devilmaycry4/news.html?page=1&sid=6181350).
DMC 4 Collector's Edition Dated, Detailed (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/832/832694p1.html)
Discs galore will accompany the pricier version of the gothic action sequel.
by Ryan Geddes (http://xbox360.ign.com/email.html)
November 5, 2007 - Capcom has announced the details of the console versions of the Devil May Cry 4 Collector's Edition, due in stores on Feb. 5.
In addition to the game, the special set comes in a metal case and will include The Devil May Cry: The Animated Series anime disc. That disc will come with the first four episodes of the 12-episode anime series (Vol. I of the four-disc DVD anime series will also be available from ADV Films at the same time the game launches).
The Collector's Edition will also include a bonus DVD containing a "making of" feature on the game, music from the Devil May Cry 4 soundtrack, a digital art book with images and sketches from the development team, wallpapers, icons and screen savers. The set will sell at a suggested retail price of $79.99.
Devil May Cry 4 takes gamers to a gothic supernatural world, where a new protagonist clashes with series mainstay Dante. As new leading man Nero, players will be able to unleash attacks and non-stop combos using a combination of the Devil Bringer arm and the Exceed system, both of which are new gameplay mechanics for the series.
DMC4 will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

First details on Devil May Cry 4 demo (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=176601)
Thursday 29-Nov-2007 2:41 PM City, ice and a big boss in DMC4 demo... probably coming to XBL and PSN at erm, some point...
The first details have emerged on the pre-release demo of Devil May Cry 4... even if we don't have a clue when or where it's going to hit.
The ten minute demo is a mish-mash of portions from Devil May Cry 4's story, including cut-up sections from Fortuna city as well as a bit from that icy level we've seen a thousand screenshots of.
Excitingly a boss character called Berial (probably demon for 'Barry') is also said to feature. Oh Capcom, you're spoiling us!
Speculation did kick off on the net that the DMC4 demo would be coming only to Xbox Live Marketplace in December, but Capcom has since debunked the rumour as "incorrect".
"The news you're looking for is not far off... a little more patience please," posted a Capcom spokesperson on a company forum.
So it's probably coming to box Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and news isn't far off? Let's hope we get it before Christmas.

DEMO FOR CAPCOM®'S DEVIL MAY CRY® 4 COMING TO PLAYSTATION®3 SYSTEM AND XBOX LIVE® ONLINE SERVICES EARLY 2008 (http://press.capcom.com/release.asp?i=60)
Gamers Will Have the Opportunity to Experience the Power of the "Devil Bringer" Before Purchasing the Game
Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that owners of Sony Computer Entertainment’s PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft will be able to experience Devil May Cry® 4 early, thanks to the release of a playable demo. A free downloadable demo of the game will be available on the PLAYSTATION®Store and Xbox LIVE® Marketplace in early 2008. Devil May Cry 4 has been rated M for Mature by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB).
The demo introduces gamers to the gothic-inspired supernatural world of Devil May Cry 4, new protagonist Nero and the awesome power of his Devil Bringer. The demo consists of a sampling of sections from the full game, chosen to showcase Devil May Cry 4’s varied locales and allows gamers to familiarize themselves with Nero’s unique abilities. Players will receive instruction on the various new actions that the Devil Bringer bestows, such as the ability to slam creatures to the ground, cover great distances in a single bound or even grab enemies while on the ground or in the air and pull them towards Nero to continue the attack combo. The Exceed system allows Nero to “rev up” his sword as if it were a motorcycle throttle and unleash devastating attacks. Players will need to master all these techniques before the end of demo showdown with the mighty Berial.
Fully demonstrating the power of the next generation of consoles, the Devil May Cry 4 demo brings to life the coastal city of Fortuna and its surroundings, such as the port and snow-capped mountain ranges in exquisite detail. Devil May Cry 4 delivers its intense action at a constant 60 frames per second at 720P resolution on HD monitors, ensuring seamless and breathtaking gameplay all in stunning high definition.

DMC4 demo drops January 24 (http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=2 6173151)
While Capcom confirmed in December (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6183772.html) that Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers would get a forward taste of the potentially sentimental infernal beings in Devil May Cry 4, the publisher said only that the demo would arrive in early 2008. Unconfirmed speculation arose last week that the demo date would be January 31, but Capcom today has smited said controversy, definitely pegging the sampler's due date for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace as this Thursday, January 24.

Rather than standard first-level fare, the DMC4 sampler will include a number of sections from various points in the game, with the highlight new hero Nero and his "Devil Bringer" power. The demo culminates in a boss fight with the fiendish Berial, and offers a look at the seaside city of Fortuna.
Rated M for Mature, Devil May Cry 4 is expected to inflict its barbaric difficulty on Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers on February 5.

Devil May Cry 4 Different Versions? Can't Tell! (http://kotaku.com/350382/devil-may-cry-4-different-versions-cant-tell)
http://kotaku.com/assets/resources/2008/01/DMC4_19_360.png (http://d.hatena.ne.jp/yoda-dip-jp/20080124)
When the multi-platform games first came out, there was a difference. In some cases, take Madden 08, the PS3 version didn't look so hot. It was evident that the PS3 version was an afterthought and that developers hadn't quite come to grips with the hardware differences. Games like Call of Duty 4 and the upcoming Devil May Cry 4 show that the gap is closing. It's getting harder to differentiate between the different versions, making the games truly multi-plat. This in line with what Capcom's been saying: That there will be no major graphical differences between the two versions. Above is the Xbox 360 one, so hit the jump for the PS3 one. We can't really tell them apart!

It is very difficult to separate them — which should please gamers on both side of the console fence. Japanese game site Iroinaki Coin Ikko Ireru did the comparison. If you click through the pics on the site, be aware that some of the PS3 version is blurry in a few pics due to the difficulty of capturing at 60 frames per second on the PS3.

Capcom blames retailers for DMC4 pricing (http://www.videogamer.com/news/29-01-2008-7367.html)

PS3 version £10 more expensive than Xbox 360 version.

The decision to price the PS3 version of Devil May Cry 4 £10 higher than the Xbox 360 version came from retailers, not publisher Capcom, VideoGamer.com has learned.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com, a spokesperson for Capcom said: "We don't set the prices of our games, that's at the discretion of the retailer. In this specific instance, the process has resulted in a price difference, but the process itself is not something we completely control."
While DMC4 is certainly not the first multi-format game to be more expensive on the PS3, in this case some PS3 owners have complained at the higher price for what is essentially the same game on a different console.
High street specialist retailer GAME lists DMC4 with an RRP of £49.99 on PS3 and £39.99 on Xbox 360. Both Play.com and Amazon.co.uk list the same pricing.
Regular readers will know the game, which is due out on both consoles on 8 February, looks in good shape. The lower pic (Ps3 version) looks a bit brighter from what I could tell by looking at the mountain of rocks in the background.

Maybe, but any graphical differences seem negligible.

http://kotaku.com/assets/resources/2007/03/DMC4.jpg
Capcom have just announced that Devil May Cry 4 is no longer a PS3 exclusive. Not only is there a 360 version in the works, but it's coming to PC as well. Capcom's Mark Beaumont:
Capcom is committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible, and has been building its technology base to meet that goal. This announcement means that PS3, Xbox 360 and PC owners worldwide will be able to experience the latest installment of one of Capcom's pillar franchises.
The 360 version will ship alongside the PS3 one, with the PC version coming a little later.
Big news? Certainly. Unexpected? Hardly.

Devil May Cry 4 PC ALMOST Dated (http://kotaku.com/383200/devil-may-cry-4-pc-almost-dated)
http://kotaku.com/assets/resources/2008/04/dmc4pc.jpg
We've already heard (http://kotaku.com/gaming/dmc4/devil-may-cry-4-goes-multiplatform-245427.php) that Devil May Cry 4 is coming to PCs, but now we almost know when. This summer. Yes, that's as specific as Capcom is getting at the moment. In addition, a demo is promised and DMC4 PC will be sporting some new modes, too:
Turbo mode will turn-up the action to insane speeds, while Legendary Dark Knight Mode will harness advanced PC processing power and fill the screen with an unbelievable number of enemies for extra difficulty. Moreover, familiar enemies from the console versions will show-up in new locations in the PC version.
I dunno. In the PC gaming world, "new modes" and "additional content" are beginning to feel more and more like a lame apology for showing up 2 hours late to a dinner party whilst reeking of Whopper Juniors. To read more about the menu, check out this press release:
