View Full Version : Be you a good cook, or not?

Are you good at cooking? Can you take a bunch of random food items and concoct a not only edible, but delectable dish at any time, or do you consider yourself lucky if the water you're boiling doesn't combust, razing your entire block to the ground in a hellish storm of fire and destruction?
A diamond vial of LSD-laced water to the winner o.o
Anyways, I'm actually a darn good cook. Dunno how it happened, but my luck with making stuff is usually excellent.

Everything I'd cook would turn into a monster.
No really, I can't cook for crap, the most I can cook is a frozen dinner.

I'm decent, I guess. I'm actually pretty good, but I rarely cook with fresh stuff.

I'm not too bad, and I'd like to think I'm getting better.
My cooking skills are limited to about 4 or 5 recipes, though.

I've learned all of the family recipies except my Mother's original Beef and Vegetable Stew creation (Only time you'll ever catch me eating turnip is in that stew) but yeah, I can cook pretty damned good for a teen living at home. Regrettably, this also means I have to do msot of the cooking around here as well.
Some of my better meals include:
Chicken Fried Rice (Not always chicken. I've uses sausage, hamburger, and bacon, all to great effect... er, not as good as the chicken, mind you)
Pasta Fajoli: A traditional Italian recipe involving Noodles, tomato sauce, and Kidney Beans, and as a family extra we throw in sausages. Me and sis like to experiment with spices to compliment the taste. Hers usually tastes a bit better than mine, but mine beats mom's so I guess I'm good in this area.
Soya Stir Fry: I'm not that big on Teryaki whatever stuff, and when I stir fry, it's all a matter of green veggies (celeri mostly, but broccoli as well) and soya sauce in a frying pan. I stir, and it fries, haha! It's great, too!
And now, for the one thing I can't cook worth crap!
... Kraft Dinner, except the White Cheddar kind. I dunno, it always tastes bad when I make it and good when others make it....

I guess I'm a pretty good cook..., depending on what I'm making - though the food I cook for myself would not taste good for most. The food i would cook for others though would be good...
I can make a lot of things - most a bit exotic but simple...
My main ability is to make things with little money..., from very simple items...

I can make whatever I need to. I can bake chicken in the oven and fries or whatever I need to make dinner with. ^^ Chicken is so easy to bake.

I am the greatest frozen pizza baker on the planet.
It's sad because it's true.

I can cook a very wide variety seafood dishes, from traditional to original. Eel and lobster are my specialties, though I'm good with just about any seafood.
I can also bake like noone's business and am an expert at putting together cakes and pastries from scratch.
I absolutely suck at making storebought "in-the-box" type meals, such as Rice-a-Roni or Tuna Helper and whatnot. I have no idea why I can't do it, but I can't. It never turns out like it's supposed to and either gets burnt somehow (even when I follow the directions on the box to a tee) or becomes too mushy/watery or just plain tastes horrible.
I much prefer cooking things with natural ingredience and from scratch rather than making something that's been pre-cooked or pre-prepared. Well, with the exception of bagged chicken nuggets or something. I like those.

I prefer to bake than cook but im not bad at either. I'd give myself a 6/10 in cooking and 8.5/10 at baking.

I am a horrible cook, seeing as though I have managed to catch my kitchen on fire twice.

I'm pretty alright with cakes.
I guess I just shove what I like together and eat it.
I often do my own stir-fries but it's not like they take effort. But I make my own sweet and sour chicken and...I can make a mean pineapple and ham omlette as well as a pineapple and ginger/cinnamon omlette
Only thing I ever took to naturally was baking, though. I've never used a cook book in my life...I just do it based on what I think. I can make rock-cakes, cup-cakes...Cake-cakes. Pasties, sausage rolls and cookies.
All based on what I've picked up through life, without actually looking anything up.
I made Pizza at random in school once...But now I can't seem to make a Pizza to save my life. It looks nice but never tastes too good. I even looked it up a few weeks back to make sure I had it right...I had it perfect...
But yeah, I guess I'm a good cook. I always make my own meals. Now I often buy pre-chopped veg, though...Because it's actually alot cheaper.
Oh, yeah! I make crumbles, too. Normally apple and blackberry or raspberry. And it's kinda nice when my family come home and the first thing they say is "What's our treat tonight, then?"

Me, a good cook? Oh hell no. I could probably ruin cereal somehow.
If I don't marry a woman who can cook, I'm fucked. XD

Compromise, then :D Like, offer to do the dishes if she cooks! I'm hoping I find a woman who doesn't mind doing the dishes, myself, I hate dishes with a passion that makes absolutely no sense but they just piss me off and make me want to throw them!
... On the other hand, I learned last night that Pork Souvlaki can indeed be made in the microwave... being too lazy to cook leads to new discoveries! :D

The 3 items I use most when cooking, Chicken, Green Pepper, and a Wok. Although I haven't cooked like that in a long time!

Actually, the girl I'm interested in right now LIKES cooking... I'm not even kidding, she honestly enjoys cooking. She's damn good at it too; hell, she's going to a culinary institute for it. Free gourmet food FTW.

I would've gone to a culinary institute, but cooking for me is more of a hobby than a passion. I'm good at it, and I enjoy it, but I wouldn't want to cook for a living.

Oh, she can't get enough of it.
...I am RIGHT behind her on that. She really takes pride in her cooking, as she is good at it, so I say more power to her and more food to me. <__<

I'm not a great cook, but I'm a pretty good cook. I like to bake, marinade and BBQ. Stuff like that.
