What will happen now that the congress has shifted Democrat.

It is being said that Bush is now essentially a lame duck president, and that incredible shifts have occured with the speaker of the house changing to democrat along with the voting...

Honestly, I don't think all that much will change. Republican's will still shoot down the Dem's, and visa versa. The only difference is, the Dem's will have a little more say in things...and get to block pretty much anything they don't like. Considering there's a lot of conservative Democrats now, some of them may still end up siding with the Repubs.

if Democrats attain majority control of the congress they'll have quite a bit more than just a little say.

anyway... for the most part this is good news for me.

The way the Democrats took control, it's mostly towards the president to veto things - that's the most shooting down they can do.

If Bush does start doing that - which would be a great mistake at this time - the Congress would cause so much trouble for Bush his head would spin. It would literally turn into a war...

But it seems more that republicans are now more willing to side with democrats, than the other way around.
They see Bush as a lame duck now - and are more willing to cooperate with moderate republicans like McCain than with Cheney...

damn you...I was gonna say that.
He might be impeached, but not remove. Like clinton.

No, I sincerely doubt that - unless the Democrats want to waste time for now. Their best bet is to just work with a weakened Bush who at the moment seems very eager to cooperate and negotiate...

I don't think they will. It seems like they're planning on getting right to work on things instead of going in a bs direction like that. spending precious time trying to get the president impeached would put a serious dent in the time they have to start fulfilling their own political agenda.

I doubt they even have a chance right now -
it seems more like their focusing on damage control.
Fixing the economy,
fixing the debt,
re-directing the war to suite the military command's requests,
getting a direction and negotiation for immigration,
setting down a fair tax system and hiking up the taxes for wealthy...

....no time for their own devises or projects

Indeed the new batch is a moderate group of democrats.

I don't see any great shifts happening. Minimum wage raises are sure to be on the docket soon.

Bush certainly isn't ending his time in office with only a single veto.

I was just about to say that would be one of the first things they want to do.

I'm sure it's more than likely that now the republicans will now give democrats all the responsibility of the war and ultimately blame them for the failure in Iraq that was inevitable.

I have nothing to add, besides to say...you could very well be right.

I don't agree -
I doubt the democrats will waste their time with things they know he'll turn down.
Their more willing to negotiate - so they will at least at first place forward important moderate changes through negotiations with the republians...

that wouldn't work out very well for them unless the democrats themselves do something to contribute to our already massive fuck ups. part of the reason a lot of democrats were supported in the first place was their distaste for the way the republicans were running their war with Iraq. people won't be tricked again that easily.

It's happened before. I would only hope that we would not fall into the same trap twice.
