And now, what some would consider bad news...
Assassin's Creed delayed (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=148118&skip=yes)

Wednesday 25-Oct-2006 10:18 AM Medieval assassin 'em-up, along with Brothers in Arms, pushed back to "fiscal 2007/2008"

The 360, PS3 and PC adventure game, Assassin's Creed has been delayed until 'fiscal 2007/2008'. When contacted, Ubisoft wouldn't say anything at all about why two of its biggest games have been delayed.

This means it'll likely be the end of next year before one of our most anticipated titles reaches our HD tellies, but on the bright side at least Ubi will be able to get ample polishing time in, so that it lives up to all of obscenely-high expectations.

Additionally, WWII stalwarts will be disappointed to hear that Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway has been pushed backed to the same mysterious "fiscal 2007/2008", but we're sure that would benefit from a bit of extra work as well.

Still, how could we stay mad with Assassin's Creed producer, Jade Raymond staring at us with her dark, forgiving eyes?

New Assassin's Creed details and screens (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=148699)

Monday 6-Nov-2006 12:19 PM Altair to be a 'Robin Hood' style character?

Thanks to our colleagues at Gamefront.de (http://www.gamefront.de/) we have managed to get our hands on some more screens and info on Ubisoft's much-desired Assassin's Creed.

As part of keeping the game grounded in history, the gameplay will remain realistic meaning that success in a sword fight will depend on good observation and timing rather than mastering combos. As Altair's acrobatics are modelled on those of a real-life, highly-trained athlete, don't expect him to be able to sustain regular knocks to the head without suffering the consequences.

More information has been revealed about the side-missions that Altair can choose to take on, which mostly revolve around helping the populace to get them on side. One mission revolves around the distinctly Robin Hood-flavoured notion of stealing money back from the corrupt to return it to the poor. The more allies you gain, the more help you'll receive in your future fleeing from the scenes of your crimes.

We're all very excited about this one, so to satisfy you for the time being, take a look at these new images acquired by our friends over at Gamefront.

The following is an update to a rumor that has been around for 3+ months...
Secrets of Assassin's Creed Leaked? (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/750/750958p1.html)

Actress lets the premise of high profile Ubisoft title out of the bag in interview.
by Jeff Haynes (http://xbox360.ign.com/email.html)

December 13, 2006 - For months, we've been covering every scrap of information about Assassin's Creed (http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/834/834724.html), Ubisoft's Montreal's upcoming action game set in 1191 AD during the Third Crusade. As the assassin Altair, players are tasked with eliminating key figures on both sides of the war in an attempt to end the hostilities. Not only does Assassin's Creed offer new stealth mechanics thanks to its social camouflage feature, it also showcases new acrobatic maneuvers using the immediate environment around Altair that haven't been seen before in a game. While there were some curious hints as to whether or not the entire game would be set solely in the Third Crusade thanks to some of the video clips that have been released, we were looking forward to potentially changing the course of history.

Or will we? Interestingly, it seems as though the medieval action title isn't exactly what it seems. Looks like there's more of a sci-fi twist to the game than we initially thought. In an interview with IGN TV (http://tv.ign.com/articles/750/750843p3.html), Kristen Bell, the star of Veronica Mars explains her connection to the upcoming game. She also reveals the sci-fi premise behind the game: "It's actually really interesting to me. It's sort of based on the research that's sort of happening now, about the fact that your genes might be able to hold memory. And you could argue semantics and say it's instinct, but how does a baby bird know to eat a worm, as opposed to a cockroach, if its parents don't show it? And it's about this science company trying to, Matrix-style, go into peoples brains and find out an ancestor who used to be an assassin, and sort of locate who that person is."

We contacted Ubisoft for a comment on Bell's disclosure, but they were unavailable at the time this story was published. Looks like we'll be going back to the future with Assassin's Creed sometime next year.

Assassin's Creed DS? (http://kotaku.com/gaming/assassin.s-creed/assassins-creed-ds-250645.php)

So I was at my old GameStop (http://kotaku.com/gaming/gamestop/) on Saturday, catching up with the news and trying to see if my former assistant manager's mom was still single, when one of the employees mentioned Assassin's Creed (http://kotaku.com/gaming/assassin.s-creed/) for the Nintendo DS (http://kotaku.com/gaming/ds/). The DS? I had not heard of such an animal, but they showed me in their computer - Assassin (http://kotaku.com/gaming/assassin/)'s Creed Nintendo DS, SKU number 180408, with an expected ship date of the 26th of September. Retailing for $29.99, the game is, like everything at GameStop, available for preorder. It isn't on their website, but give your nearest store a call.

While I was pondering this over the weekend, a Kotakuite named Eric sent us a link to GameFly, who has the game listed for pre-rental (http://www.gamefly.com/products/detail.asp?pid=125850&fcTrack=Search?-?Alphabetical). A coincidence? A conspiracy? Wishful thinking?

We'll be following up on this with Ubisoft (http://kotaku.com/gaming/ubisoft/) later today. In the meantime, I'm sure GameStop won't mind you dropping $5 on the title, whether or not it actually exists. Michael Fahey

Assassin's Creed: Ubisoft breaks the silence (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=162697)

Wednesday 25-Apr-2007 11:04 AM Script writer sheds story revelations to our mates at Xbox World 360 magazine - read it online now!

After a cold and quiet few months everyone's favourite French publisher Ubisoft has decided to break the silence on its Prince of Persia-meets-Hitman adventure Assassins' Creed.

The chatter comes in the latest issue of Xbox World 360 magazine which you can find on the shelves today.

"I think it's safe to say that the Crusades are an area we've wanted to explore for a long time, but we've been waiting for technology to reach a point where we can do it justice," script writer Cory May says.

"We contacted a historian early in the conception phase of development to help us build a foundation of research. We have used the web, documentaries, old medieval encyclopaedias, paintings and novels. The historian helped us with some harder to find information such as original city plans of Jerusalem, Damascus and Acre that date back to the 3rd crusade."

Our kind and gentle colleagues on the mag have decided to stick the entire interview with script writer Cory May online, and you can find it here (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=162466), here (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=162581) and oh - here (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=162689) as well.

Another video fresh from the UbiDays press pack is this brand new trailer of Assassin's Creed and yeah, it's still looking bloody gorgeous.

The video demonstrates a bit more of the sense of scale Ubisoft's excellent Montreal studio is going for, and shows off some of the truly excellent animation work - including Altair giving an enemy combatant a cheeky slap during a sword fight.

Ubisoft showed off next to nothing new on the hotly anticipated action game at its recent event, but you knew we were going to write about it anyway.

By Brad Shoemaker (http://www.gamespot.com/users/Brad/), GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/)

At Ubisoft's recent "Ubidays" press event in San Francisco, the company showed off in-the-flesh, often playable versions of its hottest fall releases, like Tom Clancy's EndWar, Haze, and Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway. But Ubisoft's most highly awaited game, Assassin's Creed, was nowhere to be seen on the event floor. The company instead sated attended press with a brief presentation by producer Jade Raymond and a scant few seconds of new gameplay footage. Honestly, we couldn't glean much in the way of hard details from the trailer, but of course we're going to report on any new public exhibition of such a sought-after game, however slight. Besides, we'll cut Ubisoft a little slack on this one, since the company is promising a public hands-on demo of the game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in just about six weeks.

First of all, the new trailer doesn't even touch on the science fiction tie-in at the end of last year's E3 demo. Raymond says fans will have to wait until even after this year's E3 to find out anything more about the game's potentially time-traveling or otherwise futuristically influenced plot twist (though we're betting we won't find out what's really going on until we play through the game for ourselves). We do get to see more new cities from the Crusades (set roughly from 1100 to 1300), such as Jerusalem and Damascus, as well as an area Raymond somewhat cryptically referred to as "the Kingdom." These areas are roughly 15 times larger than what we saw at last year's E3. Moreover, the engine now supports 150 discrete computer-controlled characters, each with independent AI, so it sounds like the team is working hard on filling out those medieval expanses for the final game.

The trailer doesn't show off a lot in terms of new gameplay, but it does seem to place an emphasis on equestrian combat. We were pretty into the retractable blades that you'll be able to hide underneath your sleeves (which can be seen in the trailer), but then, we like to look at the game's hero Altaïr as some sort of medieval ninja. The last gameplay element we got any info on was the leap of faith, a move that will facilitate your quick exit from the scene of your nefarious doings. Raymond says missions in the game won't end when you perform the kill; escaping from the area will be as important as taking down your mark. You'll be able to make a leap of faith from predefined high points (indicated by specific imagery, like a flock of birds) onto soft spots like bales of hay below. The team wants to offer exciting chase sequences in the final game, and this move sounds like an important part of those mechanics.

Ubisoft is promising a lot more on the game at E3, so we'll bring you more (including hands-on information) in July. And make sure you view the new trailer, linked at the top of this preview, to tide you over.

UK, October 25, 2007 - Ubisoft has revealed that long-awaited Assassin's Creed (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/objects/834/834724.html) has gone "gold", if you will, and is set for release in the UK on November 16. That applies to both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, just in case you were wondering.

Everyone's favourite pin-up producer Jade Raymond had this to say regarding the news: "We've been working very hard for nearly four years to make Assassin's Creed a reality and now there is a confirmed date when players will get to experience the results of our efforts". Raymond continued, "This is a huge event for the team. Our biggest reward will be everyone having a lot of good solid fun."

Assassin's Creed sees players jumping off things in 1191 AD - and if you want more information than that, check out the official Assassin's Creed website (http://www.assassinscreed.com/). Or, better yet, fix eyes forward for IGN's definitive review, coming soon.

October 25, 2007 - Assassin's Creed (http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/834/834724.html), the acrobatic adventure game on the way from Ubisoft Montreal, has reached gold status and is on track to meet its scheduled release date.

The game is set for a Nov. 13 release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in both a standard and limited edition. Gamers who pre-order the title at GameStop will receive a bonus Assassin's Creed art book when they pick up their copy.

"We've been working very hard for nearly four years to make Assassin's Creed a reality and now there is a confirmed date when players will get to experience the results of our efforts," said Jade Raymond, the game's producer. Assassin's Creed is set in 1191 A.D., when the Third Crusade is tearing the Holy Land apart. You play as Altair, an Assassin tasked with taking out some of the region's most prominent figures.

For those of you wondering, the PC and DS versions are scheduled to be released in early 2008.

I had the SE version reserved for the Ps3 but I changed it to 360 as the Ps3 isn't mine.

I can't wait for this game. I will have beaten Bioshock by then and I will put it ahead of any other game I have as it is just plain great looking and I can't wait to try it out.

doesn't matter, the game is looking awesome, its right up there with MGS4 with me, I've been reading about it in Game Informer, some of the stuff you have to do sounds awesome, like climbing to the top of a building to map out your map. It just looks like a 100+ hours of fun.
