Last year, the President's Council on Bioethics expressed concern that "memory numbing ... could dull the sting of one's own shameful acts ... allow a criminal to numb the memory of his or her victims
Well, that's the main reason I'm against it.
If you get emberrased, get a heartbreak or something like that, just move on and try to forget it..
So, we shouldn't have brain washing.. that's just :crazy!

Meh, i think it would be impossible to completly erase a memory, and when it eventually resurfaced...well...i think we've seen the effects of it plenty of times in videogames/catroons/anime/etc lolol

I'm totally against brain-washing, it allows ppl to commit terrible acts knowing that they won't feel guilt, they won't even know what they did. And guilt is the basis of of our conscience.

Sound like something the government would come up with to try to make us forget that we already payed our taxes. Men in Black show up and zap you with a neutralizer, Hi, you need to pay your taxes again.

not quite, take the examples they used in ptsd. Pyschologists, Psychiatrists and any medical personell take into consideraion the benefits and ethical considerations.
Its NOT brain washing as brain washing implies suggestive memories be inserted, this is to remove stress and trauma upon the human psyche, and in cases could be very useful. We have no qualms with cutting the brain in half when need be because it is for the survival of the person, have you even thought about how it could help stem suicides, body mutilations and for those with mental problems? Have you even cnsidered the good points it could have in the arguments youve put forth?
We overstep our bounderies on numerous occasions when it comes to how to help each other and the right ways to go about it.

I'm against brain washing too, but for slightly different reasons. I think that everything that's happened to you, good and bad is what makes you who you are. Getting rid of that would be killing a part of yourself.

If we get rid of tramatic memories, then whats next? We will devolve into a species that can't deal with an uncomfortable situation, we'll just run away and then erase any memory of it happening.
