zune and ipod photo compared!!

I got face time with a Zune this weekend and decided to look at how the form factor compares to the 80GB iPod I picked up a few days ago. The Zune weighs considerably less than the iPod, although I didn't have a scale on hand to get exact comparison. It felt like the Zune was more comparable to my Cingular 2125 phone, while the iPod weighs quite a bit more.

personaly I don't have an mp3 player because I'm rarely anywhere where i might need one anymore, but this is still an interesting read none the less because microsoft only got into this to compete with apple, not because they really needed to.

the great thing that will definately come out of this rivalry is lower prices... which means I might actually buy a decent MP3 player soon.

Content - This category is the one that has the opportunity to change the most. Right now the iPod, through iTunes, has thousands of songs, hundreds of TV shows, dozens of movies, and a handful of games to download for the device. As of this writing we still don’t know what all the Zune Marketplace will hold for Zune owners. It is safe to assume that the Zune Marketplace will feature TV and MOVIE content, but right now we don’t have any idea how that will go. So, for now at least, this one goes to Apple.

i share your feelings about apple.. though I'm a bit more subtle.. either way though I have little hope for the zune.. I think its honestly pointless to release it because apple dominates and there are not enough hardcore windows fanactics to really want to buy this. I suppose though time will tell what this baby is capable of.

To be honest, I hope Microsoft doesn't plan to dominate the MP3 player market with this thing, because the iPod took its current position and I don't think it'll be moving anytime soon >.>

Despite my burning in hell hatred for Apple, I would buy an iPod anyway.

Y'know, I found it odd: I read in a Micro blog that the iPod "was old", and the Zune was the new and cool way to hear music. I just couldn't help but laugh at this. The Zune, who's a newb to this market, expecting to beat the iPod, who practically started the portable MP3 player market? Doubt it.

its a new war... honestly, I realized it; the only reason that microsoft jumped into it is because they were expected to... Apple, a company who not only manufactures pcs, also programs their own OS. Microsoft their only, yet greatest competition was not doing anything. They were probably hassled, asked why they hadn't released an mp3 player.. Personally this should be interesting since microsoft has a very good tract record. If they do well that be interesting to see. If not.. well then.. good riddance to bad rubbish.

I kinda find that funny, I normally listen to either atmosphereic or game music while writing. I can't concentrate if I fire up rock or metal.

Hmm, I was totally gonna buy an ipod until I saw you have to buy fm radio accessories for it. God damnit, for that price, I want awesome video/music stuff AND radio. -_-

indeed it was, but we'll see if it really challenges it. ipod is a long established product, while the zune is not. a lot of times people aren't willing to try new things.

Could be probably the tendency of the consumers to go for an established or trustworthy brand. The iPod it's in 5th gen now and it's as powerful as ever, both in marketing and sales. Honestly, I don't believe a bigger screen and an acessible price, both are owned by Zune, will be enough to knock down the iPod.

well the good part about the zune is it finally brings a worthy opponent which could actually mean the price of both units dropping to compete.
