A local teen is in critical condition after he was struck in the head with a concrete block, according to police.
Police say Derrick Gabbard, 17, a Lincoln High School grad was in the back seat of a car driving eastbound on Talladay Road in Augusta Township when a concrete block smashed through the windshield and struck him in the head.

Troopers with the Ypsilanti post of the Michigan State Police pulled the car over on northbound Huron Street as the 21-year-old driver attempted to rush his passenger to the hospital, according to reports.

The driver and the front seat passenger -- an 18-year-old male -- immediately notified troopers that the teen in back needed medical attention.

The teen was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti. He's listed in critical condition after undergoing surgery.

Police arrested a 40-year-old man and a 17-year-old male who are accused of throwing the concrete at the moving vehicle. The two are scheduled to be arraigned on charges of felonious assault in the 14-A1 District Court Saturday morning.

if they intended on killing that person specificly, then it would be attempted murder. But since it was just brick lobbing in general, it's more manslaughter.
