Since my fanfic is creating some talk of it(some as in, not very much at all) here is a place to talk about...well...starcraft

Zelphiel

I need to start playing it again. maybe we could play each other on battle.net or something.

Quel Thalas
06-22-2004, 10:28 PM
god...i can just now beat the compie with the toss over zerg(okok...7 zerg opponents)...last time i played battle.net, i was handed my ass on a plate...

Zelphiel

i was handed my ass on a plate...

tell me about it... there are some people that do nothing but play starcraft all day, not to mention the bs'ers. I may have to find a good ally alert/map hack like what I used to have if I start playing again.

we could always do teams against comps or something.

btw... what's your win/loss on battle.net?

Quel Thalas
06-22-2004, 10:35 PM
um...heh...0/3...and against a comp opponent, im not too bad...strategies like that are straight forward...sounds like a good idea...plus...gives us an idea of eachothers playing style...very good idea indeed, lathan...if you wanna set it up, just im me whenever im on...

Zelphiel
06-22-2004, 10:39 PM
ok... first I'll have to go home (I'm not on my comp) and find my Brood War disc first...

my win/loss was 300/something I can't remember.

what kind of battle do you want to do... 2 protoss (us) vs 6 zerg or something like that. I'll probably put it on an ultimate map too. You max out at around 500,000 minerals and gas on those. I guess it could be a n/r game, unless you really like to rush. I think it's more fun when you actually build up a large force first.

Quel Thalas
06-22-2004, 10:41 PM
i always build large forces before i attack...i make sure of the fact that i can attack atleast two bases at once...i make damn well sure of it...my protoss war bands are a force to be reckoned with

Seifer

My friends call me the Carrier God. And for good reason.

They always fight me and use every strategy recommended against teh carriers. I win anyway.

My usual strategy is pretty much having a base of cannons, then getting some 'Sairs to take out the aerial threats. Then let the carriers do the work.

Quel Thalas
06-22-2004, 11:20 PM
Meh...i dont bother with any other aerial forces...mass carrier rush, with two layers of cannons protecting my base...held off 7 zerg broods for about 2 hours once :D

Seifer
06-22-2004, 11:22 PM
Hehe yeah it is fun to have 7 computers go up against you at once.

After doing it forever it gets kinda repetitive though. Sometimes I like to try new things.

Quel Thalas
06-22-2004, 11:24 PM
*shrugs* all i know is...its near impossible to protect against 'toss like taht for two hours...i shall never try...ever again...and i toss it up sometimes...pure scout rushes, dragoon squads(death groups)...anything that kills effectively, and quickly...i build slow...but once im going...im hard to beat down...

Zelphiel
06-22-2004, 11:25 PM
the only bad thing about a carrier armada is going up against a hoarde of zerg guardians. guardians > carriers

but....

carriers + arbiters > guardians :D

Quel Thalas
06-22-2004, 11:27 PM
lol...arbiters are a pain, but i use them from time to time...i tihnk they die faster then carriers...and lathan...guardians cant attack air...i think you are thinking Devourers...the very scorn of the zerg broods...also my favorite air unit :D

Zelphiel
06-22-2004, 11:30 PM

maybe I am... :uhhh

are you sure Guardians don't attack air... I thought they have an air attack.

hell, I probably am thinking of devourers.....

Quel Thalas
06-22-2004, 11:31 PM
yeah...guardians are like...excellent anti-ground units...although i dont employ them much(i prefer Mutalisks, and Devourers), they are useful in sieges of enemy bases

Zelphiel
06-22-2004, 11:35 PM
I wish ultralisks weren't so much of a pain, they work ok in large numbers when you're destroying structures.

Sometimes I use the Arbiter + Archon + a ****load of dragoons strategy, lol.

Quel Thalas
06-22-2004, 11:37 PM
lol...if im using Dragoons...i pair em up with an air cover...like a scout...have the scouts move in, pacify the area, move them out, and let the dragoons take care of things...works perfectly

Zelphiel
06-22-2004, 11:39 PM
or just cheat and use a stack hack to put about 20 photon cannons on top of each other. :devil :chuckle

Quel Thalas
06-22-2004, 11:41 PM
err...no...im not that crazy....i do things conventionally...good old nuclear warfare for terrans...zerglin attacks for zerg...and Protoss War Bands for the 'toss...thats conventional for me...

The only thing I cannot stand when it comes to carrier killers are scourge. I hate those tiny bastards. That is why I keep some scourge killers handy.

Anyway, about a different subject, I enjoy making maps more in SC. I have been doing it for a long time now and I am quite good at it =P

Quel Thalas
06-22-2004, 11:48 PM
i suck at making maps...and i very much dislike scourges...when they are against me...little buggers are VERY good when on your side :D

But yeah...i suck at map making...most of mine are simplistic in nature...but are resource heavy....and all are island maps...tell you of what kind of maps i like?

yeah, I think everyone hates those. they're so damn annoying.

Quel Thalas
06-23-2004, 12:02 AM
yeah..i normally send some scouts, or wraiths to deal with them...btw...any ya'll on GW, you might want to vote yes in the Conclave thread in public usergroups request... :D...anyhow...yeah....too bad i cant stay up tonight...i beat the terran campaign(again) in like 2 hours...need to beat 'toss campaign...

Seifer

The maps I make are never melee maps. I almost never play those anymore.

Nah I make Used Map Settings maps, like RPGs and Bounds and stuff.

I had an old map I worked on for awhile that I lost. Kefka's Return, the FF6 mystery sequel! It had all the sound files needed and everything, but was destroyed with my old comp v.v

Chicken Little
06-23-2004, 02:17 AM
bah i needa but the cds, i borrowed it off a mate and loved the protoss. That is about the only game where you can lose in 6 seconds to a zergling rush. THAT is damn amazing.

Zelphiel
06-23-2004, 02:22 AM
yeah I know... it's hard to defend against people that can rush well with protoss because everything costs so damn much.

Laggy
06-23-2004, 06:47 AM
i havnt play the game much:( its been a long time too..never beat it, i should get it=/

I like making maps.. I'm good enough.. lol.

Anyway, the Ghosts' Lockdown can be a pain in the ass.. >_<
If you send your carriers on me, I will just lockdown your carriers and send some valkyries on you.. >_< and have some golis and medics in backup :)

It's not that big of a deal when there are 30 carriers or so. I always keep a few observers with me so I can see ghosts and wraiths anyway.

Seifer
06-23-2004, 02:16 PM
Same.

I think Terran cause me the least amount of trouble when controlled by human, and Zerg the most.

Then computer Zerg is easiest and Protoss the hardest...

Quel Thalas
06-23-2004, 07:25 PM
agreed on the Zerg being a pain when controlled by humans...i lost in 2 minutes...game total 2 minutes...my freind had about 5 nydus canals on my side of the map....i was destroyed...

Zelphiel
06-23-2004, 11:54 PM
yeah. it's probably because they're the easiest to use.

Quel Thalas
06-23-2004, 11:56 PM
yeah, true...zergling rushes are quite effective, as i have learned from both using them, and having them used on me

Chicken Little
06-24-2004, 12:14 AM
LOL medics..the only use i found for them was as a splatter mark for whatever onslaught you prepare. Seriously theres somethign about a medic going 'ARRRGGG' *splat* that soothes the savage mind lol

Zelphiel
06-24-2004, 12:16 AM
they do have one of the coolest sounding old school horror movie screams...

Quel Thalas
06-24-2004, 12:23 AM
i rarely hear medics die, so i dont recall their scream...

Also using a big platoon of cloaked ghosts is quite effective. SInce you can make your own custom maps. I want to know how I make the AI work. I try to make it work after I find out the AI doesn't do anything after you try out your own custom battle that looks the way you set it up on the screen. How do I make it work. ALso my win losses are like 400something/300something.

Zelphiel
06-25-2004, 01:39 PM
meh.... like I said before. 30 or so loaded carriers, a few arbiters, and a few observers would destroy a group of cloaked ghosts, even if they were all using lockdown. There would most likely be a large group of dragoons/dark templars/archons behind my carriers too.

Gravity

Too bad you can't stack anymore, Blizzard fixed so you can't stack anymore.. :(

Quel Thalas
06-25-2004, 10:01 PM
yeah, i have that fix...sorta sucks...but meh...i played a 2v2, players vs comp last night with a freind...he dealt with the zerg, i dealt with terran...he destroyed his base first...for on reason...he moevd in before me...oh well...i was still the main strike force...once again proof that my Protoss war bands are scary to face :P

Dark Marmosett

Well people still didn't answer how I make the AI work. I still want to know how you make your own custom battlefield ai work. Not the melee custom battle field ai.

Gravity
06-28-2004, 08:02 AM
Don't you guys think that UMS is better than Melee?

I'm not really sure. I never did much with making my own maps.

Quel Thalas
06-28-2004, 02:57 PM
I never really did figure it out, either...i think i did it once...but i lost that map, cause it ws on a freinds comp i was borrowing

Zelphiel
06-29-2004, 01:02 AM
Top vs Bottom makes the comp AI better, because they all work against you as a team.

Quel Thalas
06-29-2004, 02:18 AM
yeah, ive played like that before....my freind and i played like that before, and i pwned him

Zelphiel
06-29-2004, 02:29 AM
Top vs Bottom (7comps vs you) can be really hard. They'll build in each others bases, and their stuff ends up being all over the place. You have to be very fast in the beginning because all 7 opponents will rush you at the same time.

Quel Thalas
06-29-2004, 02:33 AM
wow...ive never had to do that before...like...i did a 2v2 but never...actually, i do 1 on 7 all the time...and i win...so meh, nvm my ramblings

Gravity
06-29-2004, 07:28 AM
Don't you guys play on UMS mode?

Dark Marmosett
06-29-2004, 07:32 AM
I did that before with 7 computers enemies in melee custom battle. But they couldn't reach me because the only way was from the air because I accidentally made this area on the map that was surrounded by high cliff walls and I forgot to make an entrance to the outside. So I just built a mother load of missle launchers on top of the cliff. There must have been at least 50 missle launchers there, all next to each other in a line going around the perimiter.

Zelphiel
06-29-2004, 01:10 PM
UMS mode??

Gravity
06-29-2004, 04:31 PM
UMS = Use Map Settings

Try it, it r0xx0rz!! :thumb

Seifer
06-29-2004, 04:37 PM
UMS Is the better brand. It is what I play now. I am too good at bounds O.o

And gundam...it all depends on what exactly you want the comp to do to set the AI. There are many triggers that you could do to set it to do something, but to help you I would need to know exactly what you want them to do.

Dark Marmosett
06-30-2004, 07:12 PM
I want them to do normal AI things like collect cryastals and create units and upgrade their armor and weapons and build advanced buildings and attack with a strong attack force and defend their bases with a super strong defense. I already tried using the triggers but they don't do anything.

Quel Thalas

LOL, i do that with the toss alot...its fun :D
And yeah...the AI is a pain to get to do what you want...so i just dont bother

Zelphiel
06-30-2004, 08:36 PM
maybe when Blizzard gets off their lazy ass and actually makes Starcraft 2 they'll give the option to change the AI difficulty or something.

Seifer
06-30-2004, 11:19 PM
I can easily do that Gundam.

There should be an AI Trigger for set melee and such that you set to a certain location. It may not be on the default mapmaker though.

I use a lot of advanced programs when making my maps >.>

Dark Marmosett
07-01-2004, 09:30 AM
Darn, and I was lookin forward to playing my custom feild with the units and buildings I set up already.
