I think Action/Adventure games have done well. With the appearance of GTA3 and GTA: VC Companies know what they have to do to keep people buying their games, and so the whole market has increased in quality.

Yeah...but have RPGs truly flourished? I mean, there are only a select few 'good' RPGs on PS2...

not really... all of them are at least decent, which is better than on other consoles.

True, but other consoles have a lot more "good" RPGs. The genre has more or less idled on PS2 =/

PS2 has Suikoden 3, Wild Arms 3, Xenosaga, Grandia 2, Grandia 3, .hack 1-4, Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits, Legaia 2, Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy X/X-2, Disgaea, LaPucelle, and soon to be Suikoden 4, Final Fantasy XII, Star Ocean 3, Phantom Brave, Magna Carta, Xenosaga 2, and LotR the third age.
at least 3/4 of those are more than just mediocre rpgs.

Platformers have probably flourished the most on the PS2, but I was just arguing that RPGs have as well. :D

Yeah, i guess, but PS2 RPGS mostly lack the...timelessness...of SNES and PS1 RPGs.

some of them will probably gain that over time... just like the others had to do.

IMO nothing can beat SNES on RPGs timelessness.. ps1 didnt, not for me.. ps1's rpgs are good..but not that good, lol
PS2 still has some ok RPGs...but i mostly play PS1 games on it lol

PS1 also had a lot of good RPGs. But...i dunno. None of the PS2 RPGs struck me like the SNES ones...

RPGs. I can't really get into any other genre on the PS2.
First-Person Shooter games : Too used to the N64 with those and the "Z" trigger button; so I can never get used to the controls no matter how much I tried. Although I did get used to Star Wars Battlefront and loved it. One game still doesn't equal up to tons.
Survival Horror : Way too easy and short. Took me 4 hours to beat Silent Hill 3.
RPGs: Many GREAT games with amazing storylines, fun gameplay, interesting characters for the most part, nifty music, and can keep me captivated for hours on end.
As for the other genres of games, I don't really play those anymore, although I have played a few fighting games, few action-adventure, and so forth...and didn't like them at all. Got bored too easily.
