Overrated game...

What game that got a lot of hype (or at least some) do you think was or is totally overrated?

I'll say off the top of my head FF10. It had lots of commercials for it and maybe some people liked it but I really think it sucked.

The whole idea about an ex-summoner becoming a sphere hunter and sing for the people is just... absurd - to me, anyway. ^^; I don't like blitzball in FFX-2, nor do I like the dresspheres - but many people actually love the game. o.O;

well halo i liked halo it was fun yanno? for about a day or two, but not the most amazing thing ever and forever.
ff7 i couldnt get into myself and all i ever see from gamers is "omg ff7 is the best, lol my username should be sephiroth, omg sephiroth is the best" yanno?
GTA games are fun to an extent like halo also.
i just thought of most final fantasys, ff7 tends to be the worst with all of it though. i woulda expanded on everything but i had just woken up lol.
i also though of kingdom hearts, i didnt like the game personally, cant say anything about 2 becuase i didnt try it, but i just didnt see what was so great about the first one (ive had a few people agree)

Well you do kind of expect ff7 to be overated. It is a big step from flat graphics to a full 3d enviroment.

Kingdom Hearts overrated? there was barely any commercials out for it at all... so iono how it coulda been... OVERRATED... to me its possibly underrated ;) then again i just love the 'series' even though its not really a series yet.... but anyways most overrated game... hmmm... probably Halo, LoD, FFX, FFVIII, and...ummmmm .... thats it... cant think of another game as of yet but ill repost if i can think of anything

Just because it wasn't publicized doesn't mean the populace doesnt like it.

FFX2 was considered bad by so many that it can't really be overrated. Alot of the FF games, especially FFVIII and FFX require you to have the right mindset or at least an open mind in order to enjoy them.

Wow, completely opposite of my feelings. I love Kingdom Hearts because of the Disney characters, and DISPITE the Final Fantasy characters.

For overrated games, I personally would say the Shadow Hearts series. Many, many people praise the game as being one of the best in the genre, but I personally didn't feel like it was anything special. Sub-par in many areas, in fact.

That is why I never got Kingdom Hearts. I didn't want to play a game with Disney characters. Even tho the 40+ guy that works at Gamestop plays Kingdom Hearts 2. I guess its a kids or an old man's game. Maybe a girls game too.

People's views about Disney are too jaded. They hear the word "Disney" and suddenly they think it has to be for preschoolers or something. -.- Disney is a lot more mature than people think it is. Yes, they usually set their target audience towards kids, but that isn't always the case, and it hardly means they can't make anything mature.

A lot of the old Disney movies had some mature undertones to them. Many of them had at least one scantily clad, large breasted woman as a background character, for example. The Hunchback of Notredame's villian character Frolo was sexually lusting after Esmerelda, as another example. (granted, you have to actually WATCH it to see the sexual overtones, but they ARE there)

Anyway, I ran out of time so I can't give more examples. I guess my point was that not playing a great game like Kingdom Hearts because it has "Disney characters" in it is a pretty lame reason not to give something a try. The storyline can be fairly dark at times (though not in a gothic, morbid way) and is deep enough that most kids wouldn't even fully understand it.

I understand the Disney character point of Kingdom Hearts and I honestly felt that way too going into it. However, you get past that worry really quick. For the most part, the game(s) are not dumbed down to a Disney level and the worlds are intriging to explore. Having Donal and Goofy as your companions is just a nice touch.

Honestly, if you'd actually give the game a shot you'd feel silly.

However, the Final Fantasy appearance was much better than Disney experience. Hallow Bastion is just too awesome in Kingdom Hearts II.

I don't think FF7 is underrated at all, I just think that too many people try to shove it down other people's throats. KH is great if you get over the Disney thing.

I think FFX-2, cuz there are actually people who like that game. FFX was pretty overrated too. I think GTA was overrated in terms of the political reaction.

Oh, on a note. I wasn't saying "You shouldn't hate Kingdom Hearts" Everyone is free to like and dislike what they want, sure. I was just saying that it's unfair to "Hate kingdom Hearts because of Disney" and "Because of Disney, is must be a kids game" That's all.

I have thought of actually buying kingdom hearts once. It looked like it may of had some kool characters with that tanned yellow spiked hair guy in the preview of KH2. I never got part 1 tho so i'm really far behind this series and I hate being far behind.

I myself dont watch alot of TV but I remeber decided I would watch some TV one day and saw more of Zelda commercials than I did TV

Maybe its just our areas that the commercials are different. I have directv as well which could be why Barely any game commercials on it in the first place. Last one i saw was one for GTA SA. =/
