disagreeing just to disagree

ever disagree with someone just to disagree? well i went to an rpg chatroom and this guy thinks final fantasy is the golden boy of rpgs. anyway i made a pretty impressive argument that other rpgs had merits too,especially xeno saga,zelda,shadowhearts,and the suikoden series . anyway he just kept slamming me for my opinion while trying to sound all eloquent and sophisticated. i couldn't help thinking...was he arguing because he strongly believed in what he was saying or was he disagreeing just for the sake of having something to bitch about? i think some ppl out there are so set on rivalry they disagree just to stand out or prove their superiority. normally i don't get so heated. but hey it was about rpgs and i'm sorry but final fantasy is not all that! i just wish sometimes people could stand back and look at things from new perspectives. even if they still don't exactly agree with the other persons views they should at the very least respect what they have to say.

i always disagree just for the sake of the argument if i know what im talking about...i am comfortable when it comes to debating, im a master at it... so yeah, i do so quite often, but only when i know what im disagreeing about...i dont like debating on something i dont know about...and i DEFINATELY dont like looking stupid

well...i suppose he was just a square/enix fanboy. i think he is entitled to his opinion but when he said all other rpgs suck compared to ff....well to me that sounded stupid so i had to fistacuff on him. lol. i admit...ff has had some great moments...but so have other rpgs. in my opinion people need to diversify a bit and branch out.

well..most people that say FF is so damn good started on FF7 and played all the new ones other then FF9 so from FF7 and up they play and think it rules..thre ones of us that played them all, or the old ones too..know that its a great seires..but once was way better,.and for the lack of greatness it now as to us..many games seem better then the FF seires..though it is a great seires

well..#1. i think my moogle is very cute lol, and #2. kenny only wins cause i give up cause i get pissed and dont want to say things i wished i hadnt (im not fairy..though i guess you have to have to give a damn about people to ever think or wish you hadnt)

i TRY to just get along with ppl but there is always that person that is like a few people iv known in the past that just pisses me off cus thay think thay know erthing ..i dont like to argue cus its a wast of my time lol and to do it online is fake as hell id rather to it irl cus if i get to pissed i can just kick the persons ass grrrr

I do it a lot, not because I think I am superior, but because my friends have such stable opinions. This is right, this is wrong, etc. They often agree on stuff and even if i do, I will still disagree just because some people may think differently, and that what they're saying isnt right or wrong. They see things in black and white, and I see the grey, the red and blue and everything else usually. They also have stupid opinions like "I dont like the rock band HIM because the lead singer looks gay".

Yeah, i agree with ya demmy, lol. I often disagree with someone if they think their opinion is better, or more correct, than someone else's, especially if they have no evidence to back it up. OF course, they never yield an inch, but it still pisses em off.

Here is a classic example of my "friends" thinking they have a superior opinion.

Me: I dont really like Rage against the machine that much. the singer isn't really very good, and the lyrics are pretty repetitive. I prefer Audioslave, because its the same band but with a different singer.

Friend1: How can you say that? The singer from Audioslave is nowhere near as good. i can't believe you said Rage are crap!

Friend2: Rage are way better. You obviously aren't listening properly if you think Audioslave are better.

me: I'm not saying they're bad, I'm saying I dont like the singer.

Friend1: You're dissing the best band ever.. You listen to crappy music all the time and you say Rage are crap.. You need to be shot.

Aren't they great? Thats pretty much the gist of the conversation, excluding swear words and mild violence.
