i don't know if any of you have done this. but for some reason in rpgs especially ff...i fall for the "supporting" female characters over the main girl. to me the girl the guy ends up with is the uninteresting helpless yuppy princess that is always getting into trouble and expects you to bail her out. well below is a list of who some of us guys ...and girls may prefer over who we actually "get" in the end.
ff 8
for the guys: quistis. she's sexy and smart and is nice to you right from the beginning and goes so far as to even flirt with you. unlike rinoa quistis doesn't play games and takes the feelings of others into consideration. edea is also hot in a dark goth sorta way.
for the girls: well the pickings are slim ladies. zell is a moron and irving is a redneck. as for squall he has the personality of a vegetable. really the sexiest guy seems to be seifer. he has alot of style and its sorta sweet how he pretends to be edea's knight in shining armor. he is by far more romantic then squall. laguna was also quite a ladies man with a lovable personality who cared about the girl he loved as well as his friends. perhaps the game would have been more memorable if it focused on him instead. oh well.

for the guys: yeah i know. aeris is who cloud's heart is supposed to go out for. and yes she IS a very good character. however tifa is there for cloud from the beginning and i have to admit i find her more appealing. tifa can be vulnerable and caring yet when shiz hits the fan she gots your back and is an expert at martial arts.
for the ladies: vincent valentine has that dark alluring charm and for some reason he reminds me of alucard from hellsing. cid can also be sorta hunky in a rough rugged sorta way though he obivously doesn't know how to treat a lady right. then there is the ultra babe magnet sephiroth..who would be such an eligible bachelor if only he wasn't a psychopathic killer.

for the guys: lu lu is so hot. she is mysterious yet she speaks great wisdom with her silky alluring voice. she has far more substance than yuna in my opinion. rikku likewise is appealing for the same reason tifa is...she can be nurturing and inspiring as a friend while also kicking alot of arse in a fight.
for the ladies: auron maybe a little old but he has alot of roguish charm. wakka is exuberant and cheerful and could make even the saddest girl smile and laugh.

for the fellas: mission vao is very beautiful,witty,and loyal. i'd choose her over bastilla anyday(even though she's not human) .
for the ladies: carth has plenty of angst but in a way girls would find to be cute. he is the typical good guy with a heart of gold and chip on his shoulder.
shadow hearts
for the fellas: malcovich (margerette) gets my vote for this game. she's russian and she's a spy making for a sexy combination. despite her expressing interest in yuri the poor sap continues to pine away over the far less interesting alice.
the japanese female general kuwashina(might be mispelled) also is a strong and beautiful woman in yuri's life. if only she had been a playable character.
for the ladies: halley and keith valentine. halley is a handsome and verile young spell caster whom is the son of koudelka a famous lightside witch while keith valentine is a dashing blond vampire (yes, two games with vampires having the last name valentine...well ex programmers from square did have a major hand in making shadowhearts)
these are just some examples. in my opinion i think you should be able to choose your romantic interest in rpgs. how about you?
