Ok. I was getting on this morning. I used my password to log onto my computer account and then it wouldn't go any farther than that so i had to turn the power off. Now after I turned it back on again and logged in. My desktop picture is gone. Most of the stuff on my desktop is as well such as my computer and my documents. The minimize button, maximize button, and close button and that bar in general are now 50% smaller. >.< Also nwo when I try to listen to music with Windows media player it keeps on asking like as if you just first installed it and even if you presh finish and all that stuff it asks for it again. Also almost everythign else is screwed up. I can't log onto the internet right withotu a problem, but all my files are still on the computer though at least, but then everythign the way I had stuff like if I had stuff in alpehbetical order now it goes backwards in abc order. WTF happened. This computer was working fine yesterday when I was on the net and was also working good in general WTF IS GOING ON!

SOme 6 year old hacker? I dont know, really, but did you visit any suspicious sites? (lots of popups, porn, links to amateur porn, and spelling errors/noob speak are signs of this)

hmm, you mighta gotten a really bad virus, and i dont think hackers have the kind of admin power in a pc to do all that stuff

I just started scanning my computer with a virus search. out of 11,000 files scanned now. 20 of them are infected. about 80,000 more files to scan. >.> Also it doens't even let me open the recylce bin, msn messagner, and when you try to save a picture file it only is savable as bitmap instead of the file it really is. >.>

more likely a worm / trojan imitating windows system specs unless during shutdown your windows corrupted some boot sectors.

yeah, 20 infected files sounds like you mighta caught something, not to mention if there were 80k left, theres prolly around 100 infected.

Seriously I would have it checked. My older PC did the same thing. I had a Trojan and I sent it to Microsoft to investigate and ended up messing up my technicians pc for hours. I ended up reformatting my harddrive and reinstalling a new windows. I lost alot of important data in the process. I now use a couple different antiviruses and antispyware programs that I run at least twice a week.

it's gonna be way way more than 100, with 80k...

since all your saved documents and whatnot are still there, why not save them to a flash drive or dvd, and do a full format/recovery? seems like it would be the most efficient and thorough means of fixing it.

the way you described it at first sounded like a partial recovery. i've had to do a partial recovery on my old PC, and while all my saved docs and stuff were there, all the non-factory software (msn messenger and stuff) wouldn't work right. that would also explain all your desktop settings being changed (maybe to a default?) though i've never heard of a computer doing a partial recovery all on its own.

HAH! You are wrong sir. Actually there were more files than 80,000. Actually the scan went up to 186,003 files...only 33 were infected. I tried to delete, clean, or move them to the quaritine folder....but I was only capable of deleting 22 of them the rest were not capable of being done anything to. =\
