would you like to see more old school type elements in new rpgs or more innovations?

More old-school elements, as they're less iffy than innovations. Though, innovations should still be attempted, because if they didnt happen, well, imagine where we'd be >.>

same. I don't like it when things are 'too innovative'. too much at once is never good... you spend too much time getting used to the game instead of actually playing it.

I don't object to slow progression though.

Just a little bit of innovation at a time is good for me. I generally like it when a game puts a twist on tried and true methods.

definitely old school... theyre trying everything and lets face it... old school just kicks more ass than innovation

innovation, fantasy like aspects with elves magic and swords is tried and true but leads to then stagnation. A game can be innovative and ina future sense while keeping with the old methods.

Personally however id prefer to see more customisations in rpgs by way or nwn and diablo in mainstream console wise as they provide more thought and immersion then just hack and slash with the occasional healing.

Games are all about innovation. Thoughts of "keeping it generally the same with slow progression" is what leads to sequels up sequels of the same game. I'm all for try something new and maybe a little off the wall.

I think the best way it can be done is to slip it in here and there in a game to see how popular it's going to be. I hate it when I turn on a new game, that's a sequal, and it's totally different in terms of gameplay than it's predecessor. I'm a lot more comfortable if it's a concept that was touched on in the previous game and more elaborated on in the current one.
