But, as he said, that goes along with his religious belief. The kid may have lost his life, but he took it himself, selfishly, considering how many people in this world liked him. Regarding suicide, its easy to feel sorry for the people who kills themselves, but regardless of their reason, they end up hurting so many more people. And thats not to mention all the people who have gone through similar, and in some case much worse difficulties but didn't kill themselves. Not that the person should be hated for it, but it isnt like he's some poor baby who has life so much worse than all of us.

I could elaborate on it also being his religious belief but I think my secular defense is good enough on its own, especially being someone who has been just a second away from suicide myself.

I do see a BIT of hypocrisy here... both of you had your own opinions, and both of you decided the other person had no right to have that opinion. Though I still side with Phantie... suicide is NOT something to take lightly (I say that having attempted it a few times) and this thread was rather uncalled for as 1) It was just an honest comment explaining an action and 2) Nobody cares.

In short, there are times that it is best to stay quiet. I learned this the hard way after something I said about a certain ex-member here a while back.

Its fine if thats how you think, but from what I've read, Dave's POV is that the person didn't respect their own life, and according to Dave's religion, the person is going to Hell, as suicide is just another form of murder (murder, being the intent to take someone's life, and suicide being taking one's own life).

And I agree, suicide isn't to be taken lightly, but you cant just expect everyone to be "aww...thats so sad...poor baby," and consider anyone who doesn't as "immature." People handle death in different ways, especially considering varying religious views, and it seems somewhat immature to call HIM immature for espousing his opinion of the situation.


However, don't be confused here. I still do agree that it was stupid to make a thread like this over just a REP comment, especially since rep is basically all opinion, and that I (and probly most other people) have been on both the giving and receiving end of such rep comments (both here and on other sites), and havent made such threads =/

Ahem. I will not be "siding" with anyone with this, as I think both Qween and Dave have good points. That is just my opinion. But when everyone comes in here and starts telling Dave that he has made a pointless thread, and it is just uncalled for, that gets under my skin. Not much, but enough to make me make a post with more than four lines in it.

I have thought deeply about what Ben said... This is JUST a thread, just as Phantie's comment was JUST rep, it doesnt matter, as long as it was said. Saying someone sucks over the phone or through a letter is no different either.

My issue is this: Attention whoreing. Threads cause attention. Making a thread here is fine when you want to have other people backing you up (like when dealing with some narcissist or something.) But, as we can see here, Dave was attacked upon making this thread. Alongside this point... he made posts in other threads about this. That's taking this way too far.

For the future... any time you are pissed about something, type it on word or notepad or something, then do something else for a while (Ideally sleep) then look at what you wrote and decide whether you want people to see it or not.

It was the fact that someone had said something along the lines of "Further proof all Japanese are on crack" That was what was offensive, and that was what also got my mother riled up. (I never lied about anything. I could easily be offended yet again by you thinking I WAS) She's an emotional woman, and doesn't take kindly to insults of any kind. Even if that was just a joke topic, it still hurt -both me, and my family woman had read it over my shoulder after my verbal outcry I had made- I just thought it was funny that you posted such a hypocrytical statement earlier, that's all.
