(01/22/04) SAYVILLE - Police said they have a big clue in trying to nab the suspect in a string of Long Island bank robberies; the suspect has poor grammar skills.
Police aren't sure if the errors are intentional to throw officials off or if the suspect just doesn't know how to spell. One note he handed to a bank teller said "This is a robe-ry, hand over cash fast no one get hurt."
Eight banks have been held up by a man claiming to have a gun since June. The last bank hit was the Sayville North Fork Bank on December 23. Detective Vincent O'Leary asked the public to help identify the suspect. He said police think it is someone well known to his family, neighbors and co-workers. Up to $25,000 in reward money is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest of the bank robber.
