all the silent hills were pretty scary just because everything is always so gloomy, hopeless, and psychologically grating on the nerves.

well when it comes to pulse pounding terror and having to constanly worry about dying around every corner re owns. however silent hill's enviorments always creep me out because everything is always shrouded in fog and sometimes all you can do is "hear" the monsters as they get closer and closer while your radio crackles predicting your impending doom. when it comes to looks silent hill monsters have always been grotesque and horrifying. however when it comes to challenge re's enemies are top dog especially tyrant, nemesis, and those damn hunters!

I'm with night..Silent Hill games can be scary as hell, if you put yourself in to the frame of mind, the person your controlling is in. Then every time something drops in front of you your heart pounds. The game basically has to deal with evil stuff. The game itself plays a psychological game with your head. The graphics while good are dirty...very dark, gloomy, foggy, to sum it up dirty lol. And the way that the monsters look are awful, their bloody, small, evil looking and out to kill. Then just when you think your safe that you found another human being they turn out to be a complete moron or else if not their insane.
********** SPOILER FROM SILENT HILL 3 **********
****************************** **************
****************************** **************
At the end of the game the main character heather has to face the main boss of the game called 'god', I mean if this ugly disgusting thing shes facing was god, then I'm gonna sin away lol. The game itself was made to make you think WTF was that.

Well, no game is scary unless you make it scary. I mean with SH if your playing the whole time thinking this is fake, and there no reason to be scared then no you won't be. But the reason SH is scary is a lot of people like me like to let our selfs make it scary, when you let that happen the game really does become horrifying.

I don't play very many scary games, but the one that's scared me the most so far has been Silent Hill 2. I like Silent Hill a lot better than Resident Evil, because Resident Evil goes for the cheap scares like an enemy popping out of nowhere, while Silent Hill just thoroughly creeps me out.

Silent Hill 1 (2 is also good) and Fatal Frame are the scariest games I have ever played. Fatal frame 2 is more scary than the first one.

Yes, Fatal Frame 2 is so scary! Especially the girl-ghost - the one who hides in closets and you can hear bells ringing whenever she's near. o.O; Well, ok, she's not as scary as Sae - but still... >,<

Probably Silent Hill 3 for me. There was only one thing in the game that made me jump (which was a noise that I couldn't find the source of) but I always get so immersed in the creepiness that getting back into the real world after playing takes a few minutes. There was one time I was so into it that I almost jumped out of my skin when the phone rang. To top it off, I also had trouble sleeping whenever I tried to go to sleep right after playing.

Friday the 13th for NES scared the crap outta me as a kid. The way it'd play that creepy ass music through most of the area's...and Jason would just show up randomly.

I've played some horror games before, but Zombies ate my Neighbors (SNES version) was the only game to ever truly scare me. Why? Several things about it scared me-- the guys with chainsaws totally blew my mind when they cut through the hedges and I was down to nothing but squirt guns... the freakin' fungus would spread everywhere and the pattern made my skin crawl, the giant ants were faster than you and you never had enough bazooka shots to kill off all those graboids in the later stages. The thing that always got to me was the screams of the killed victims, though... that used to be the one sound that would scare me the most.

Resident Evil 4 was more action than scare tactics in my opinion but I jumped a few times and even I had a bad dream thanks to this game. Video games never, at least very rarely inspire any kind dreams for me so that's saying a lot.
F.E.A.R. freaked me out on all levels. And Fatal Frame 1 and 2 are 2 of some of the best games to play in the dark, ever.

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly. It's got the mood, the atmosphere, and the thrills. Best played late at night in a dark room. I swear when I was being chased through the house by a screaming ghost woman I nearly shit my pants.

F.E.A.R freaked me out a little bit but I guess the only one that "scared" me was Silent Hill 4 The Room. I don't care who you are a little kid who turns into a psycho killer is some of the creepiest shit I've ever seen.
