I started playing it a few days ago. So far it's a typical nippon ichi game... just a lot funnier than the others. Seriously... humor is one of the driving factors of this one. (and later probably massive leveling like in the others)

I'm only at the end of chapter 2 right now. I'll keep updates posted when I make progress in it.

I'm glad to see the humor is intact. I've always loved their brand of humor.

Hmm. Might buy it. I'm kinda torn on it though. Hmmm...

The art looks good though.

if you even remotely like Nippon you'll like it Lyccy. the game plays kind of like a combination of Disgaea and Phantom Brave.

it's more than intact, lol. just wait til you see the Dark God Valvoga when I bring it over. ... >.>.>

Makai Kingdom has much less humor than Disgaea did, but it still has it's moments. Despite that, it's still a great game. I miss being able to use things like trees, flowers, rocks, fish and whatnot as weapons, but at least you have things like drills, light sabers, morning stars, gatling guns and whatnot available to use this time around. The only really disappointing thing about Makai Kingdom is that it doesn't have many rewards upon beating the game. While there is a new game + , there aren't any new areas to unlock, and the secret characters you can obtain arent really all that "secret" or all that great. Power Leveling also isn't anywhere close to as time consuming or involving in this game since it's insanely easy to jump from level 1 to 1000 in a single battle (even on a single ENEMY if you make use of Food Dungeons) if you make use of certain weapon's hidden EXP and MANA multipliers. *cough*BOX*cough* But still, yeah, it's a game well worth getting if you liked all the other NIppon Ichi games. Though Laharl is still better than Zetta :p

Instant levelling? I'm on it. I hated the endless levelling of Phantom Brave and Disgaea, though they are very enjoyable games. I always liked the humour in the Nippon Ichi games (well...less in Phantom Brave. The girl was quite annoying. Can't remember her name.).

I've even heard rumours of a Disgaea 2...

Her name was Marona, and I personally found her to be charming. But that's just me. Anyhoo, yes, Disgaea 2 is in development, and while the game contains a new protagonist, it looks like most of the main characters from the first Disgaea (Etna, Laharl, Flonne, ect) will make appearances. There's also a Disgaea anime series in the making

Yay. I wonder what the story will be. More strange, slightly disturbing humour I hope.

Nippon Ichi, at least in Europe, is a real newbie on the scene during Square's (the big RPG company in Europe) long hiatus and there's a lotta hope for this company. After Disgaea literally burst onto the RPG scene, their profile has really gone up. I'll have to see if I can rent Makai along with Xenogears 2.

Marona reminds me of Tessa.

anyway...

Does it just have those funny moments at the start or what? I'm guessing it gets less funny as it goes or something.

btw Kimiko...

do you have any english sites that have more than just small ammounts of info on Disgaea 2 and the anime?

There's so many Nippon Ichi games that I want, but I can never seem to find the time/money to play them. I've only got Phantom Brave, and I rarely play it anymore.

Nope, there's very little detail on either at the moment. Unless you can read Japanese, they most information you can find is that in the gamefaqs message boards about the game, or in the rpgamer.com message boards about the game. And even then, despite having a couple people there who have access to direct information, there isn't much known on either. More information is sure to be leaked out soon enough, though.

Lathan brought it over so I got the chance to play a little bit of it. I'm glad they improved on how they move in battle. I was a little annoyed by that in Phantom Brave so that was the first thing I noticed in Makai.

I saw it at the mall last night, and I would get it if I had the money, but alas, I don't.

'fcourse I want it though, I was one of the first people to get Disgaea. ^^

I don't know. I originally wanted to get at least one game for my birthday but I'm also trying to put aside money for my gf's plane ticket in the summer. Makai kingdom is up there with Digital devil 2, Soul calibur 3, and X-men legends 2 rise of apcolypse on my "want" list but it may have to wait.

I'm sure it is just as awesome as the other nippon ichi games though they are getting just alittle repetitive even if each game has alterations in the overall battle system + different equipment. Like Kimiko I've always favored Disgaea for it's cutsey approach of being the "demons" and I think etna is hot.

If only I lived in a perfect world where money and videogames grew on trees! lol.
