Currently under production. This thread will eventually contain all the baseline statistics for each character at each level (with the death of Aeris being an exception). This has been a project that I have been working on for the last three days (about five hours each day), and recording each character's baseline statistics (meaning that all materia is removed so as to see the stats BEFORE any bonuses and negations take place), so my overall progression through the game is slow (about to rescue Aeris from Shin-ra hq to be exact).
This thread will be updated later today (in about 6 hours). It will contain the following:
Cloud's baseline statistics from starting level-level 17*
Tifa's baseline statistcs from starting level-level 15*
Barret's baseline statistics from starting level-level 15*
and Aeris' baseline statistics from starting level-level 14*
*All current levels are apt to change before updates.
Why am I doing this you ask? (To be perfectly honest, I have no idea, lol) but i've never found this information in all the places I have searched and thought that it may be interesting to read, and maybe even a bit helpful also.

if you want you can put it all into .txt form and we can add it to our walkthrough section.

Cylest, you SURE each charatcer has a uniform stat growth every level (materia-aside, of course). Because if not....that pretty much dooms you're whole prolect =/

As far as I know the materia equiped doesn't effect level up. Only items that affect base stats will influence it.

Thats not what I mean. I mean, I thought with a lot of RPGs, stat growth at lvl up was somewhat random. Like, Str might increase by 1-3 points for a character at lvl up, so no two results from the same character will be the same. I don't know if thats the case w/ FF7, but I know a lot of RPGs where it is.

yea thats true u might b wastin ur time if its random unless u c a pattern

That's my point people. The growth of each character's stats are COMPLETELY random, that's why it's so suicidal and pointless to try and predict what level one should be at certain points in the game. Just...read the following information, and you'll see what I mean. If you all think it's a good idea, then i'll put the finished product in a .txt format. Either way, let me know what you all think.

so... what you're saying is you're doing an average stats chart for every character.

what hes saying is that eeach walkthu has a basis of:
[area name]
[party members and lvl]
[walkthrough]
Where since the stat breakdown is random and full of influencing factors.
However with stats being random they still follow some pattern in that:
Mages will attain more mag / spir then str / def
Fighters will attain less mag / spir then str / def
Thiefs will attain more dex / luck
And the fact that the generic hero will attain an average spread of each stat =P

You all make good points. I have yet to notice any patterns, but I have noticed (and known for a very long time mind you from the various FF games I have played) that stats grow depending on the actions of the character. It is, however, quite interesting to see how the stats of each character differ. That and i've had Cloud be the dominant "black mage", and his magic and spirit has increased dramatically. By the way, I have two save files at crucial points (mainly before I started Cloud with only spells). The second file I have used him only for brute strength, and his strength and vitality stats increase a good bit each level. Like you said Nabeshin (of course i'm paraphrasing here) but depending on what each character does determines the growth of their stats. However, I still believe that HP and MP are not affected directly by the actions of the characters. Certain materia reduces max HP % and/or max MP % when equipped. Of course, one could argue that certain materia increases the max amount of both HP and MP. I have often thought that vitality directly affects HP, and magic directly affects MP. I may be wrong, but then again, there are still some things that lead me to believe are completely independent when it comes to growth.

well normally in those circumstances
mages = ++ mp + hp
fighters = ++ hp + mp
so hp and mp could be attributed to te same path as the base stat breakdown.
Of course we wont really know unless we get ahold of the source code for level up and conditions =P

That's true as well. I've often wondered if Square used the same source code for all the FF games...I mean, technically they could get away with it because in each game there has always been something to "mask" each stat (be it a weapon, armor or accessory), and 7 is no exception, with the use of materia. I still believe though that the source code pretty much says that if the character uses more physical attacks than magical (and magic works both ways, defensive and offensive) then their strength, hp, and vitality stats increase more frequently than any of the others. The same could be said about a thief and the rate that their dexterity increases as well as a mage and their mp, magic, and spirit. All in all I think it boils down to how each character is used the most.
Let me pose this next question: Do you think that by balancing out the usage of physical and magical attacks/defenses in one level of a character will make each stat pertaining to each action increase in the same level up? In other words, do you think that hp, mp, strength, vitality, magic, and spirit will all level up at the same time?

well in FF1 and 2 they used this (ass in FF2 weapon attacks increased str and mag attacks increased mag)
FF8 they based it around the characters
Squall - merc = str + spd
Selphie - mage = mag + spr
Irvine - sharpshooter = spd + accuracy
Zell - monk = vit + str
Quistis - blue mage = mag + luck
Rinoa - trainer - mage = mag + str
FFV used the job system
FFIX used a variation of the job system
FFX used the sphere grid to increase stats
FFX-2 used the job class
FFIV had classes also
To your question id answer no

heh, I might learn a thing or two from this... which is good cause I havent been able to learn anything NEW about FFVII for some time now

FFVII is a completely different beast in and of itself. There are a lot of similarities in the story lines of FFVI and FFVII, but not so much with the "leveling up system". Me personally, I think they were experimenting with possible systems when 7's method was created. Like I stated earlier, I don't think it matters how you use a character moreover the character's role in the game. Like Nabeshin said about 8, the same could be applied to 7's characters. I'll spare you all from having to read the entire list of all characters, so i'll just give you Cloud as an example and what stats increase the most frequently with him. You all obviously know that he's a merc, so therefore his str and vitality are going to increase at regular intervals (give or take every 2-4 levels), but he's also well-versed in magic (usually always having a +2 magic stat when compared to the "mage" of the game aeris), so you've got to take into consideration that his magic stat will also increase at regular intervals (and it happens more frequently than you might think...usually every other level it goes up anywhere between +1 and +3). So there you have it. Overall it's kind of hard to say what the stats for each character will be at each level. Now keep in mind that what I just posted is a rough estimate. It's not completely accurate, so if any of you do happen to keep tabs on Cloud's stats and what i've said doesn't measure up, don't hold it against me cause i'm telling you now, it's not the Gospel truth.

FFVII stats aren't going to happen, at least not anytime soon that is. I've got tons of work i'm having to do (one of which is to write three research papers in the course of five weeks...not fun), so I literally barely have time to think, let alone play a game and record information. If anyone would like to pick up where i'm leaving off (no obligation, just a thought...) then you can email me (just view my profile) and let me know. I will give you the latest information on each character. So like I say, if anyone IS interested, unless the admin does not close this thread the only way for you to let me know is via email. As far as i'm concerned, this thread is closed, and whoever does pick up the slack can take full credit for it.
