today i'm going to celebrate games that have had the most awful endings ever. it's not even all these games were bad...they just had really disappointing or rage inducing endings that made you through your control away in disgust..
secret of mana: i heard that if you beat secret of mana a certain way u get a better ending....well i didn't beat it that way and the only ending i got was seeing the characters running around as the credits were scrolling. at the very end it showed the sprite in a tree as he looked at the moon. come on..secret of mana had a great story..where's the good ending?!
mortal kombat snes: i think the genesis version had the endings for all the characters including the pictures for those endings...what did us snes mk fans get treated to? the character standing in victory pose as the text scrolled by telling the story..ugh.
baldurs gate dark alliance 1 and 2: both endings were cliff hangers leaving you with an empty feeling of lack of accomplishment.
dmc2: "i'm riding this motorcycle straight into hell!" "but lucia devil's never cry..." yes dmc 2 has the worst dialogue and worst ending of any action game in history..
zelda ocarina of time: yes link saves the princess yet again! what's his reward u might ask? he get's reverted back to a child and forgets the princess and all the intimate moments they shared...i mean what was the point of going through so much hell for your girl just to have that happen!
tekken 1-3: yeah yeah some of you will argue the end cinemas in the tekken games were awesome....but up until 4 the cinemas don't even have ppl talking in the cinemas or text to explain what is going on! in lu of that we just have to make assumptions of what is really happening. and some of the endings are just plain ridiculous especially those for the more eccentric hidden characters.
capcom vs snk: it was the joy of otaku's across the land. a fighting game with everyone's favorite characters from street fighter, samurai shodown, dark stalkers, and king of fighters all duking it out . my complaint? NO endings. "congradulations you are the king fighter!" all you get to see is your character standing on stage in front of the crowd and that annoying announcer guy talking in the back ground as cameras flash. to me not having endings or various team endings for the characters ruined the joy of this game for me..of course i had become spoiled by street fighter alpha 3 that surprisingly had some very deep story lines for all its 40 something characters.
soulcalibur 2: story wise soul calibur's endings were decent for a fighter. however instead of being treated to the beautiful cgi's and talented voice acting of tekken 4 we get changing pictures and text scrolling at the bottom..come on! all throughout the game the characters have so much fluidity and personality...in the beginning we see this gorgeous cgi of the various characters...so why couldn't they have taken the time to make the endings just as awe inspiring as the rest of the game!?
marvel vs capcom 2: another geeks wet dream marvel vs. capcom 2 pitted all our favorite super heroes against the capcom characters we had grown to love. however the programmers thought since this concept alone would make them loads of cash the game didn't need either a storyline or endings for its many interesting characters. futher more what upsets me is the first marvel vs. capcom actually had endings for its characters..sure they were not the best but at least they were there..
onimusha 1 and 2: it is not that the endings were written poorly. in fact onimusha has a great story line and lots of depth. it is simply in both oni one and 3 the girls the heroes loved so much either died(kaede) or were betrothed to another(oyu). also it is hinted in both games nobunaga had cheated death so you kinda are left to wonder if all your heroics were pointless..
