The anime sucks, but the manga rocks. It's a great read with a very touching storyline. Though I prefer Maison Ikkoku, myself. If you read Maison Ikkoku first, then Love Hina afterwards, it's clear that Ken Akamatsu "borrowed" a lot of his ideas from that series.

actualy Maison is one of the first of that type of animes kind... so most series that come out afterwords would seem to steal stuff from its predasesors.... In my opinion the anime is done just fine... it gives me a laugh here and there and thats about it.... its not one of the greatest but dose its job

Maison Ikkoku is a series by Rumiko Takahashi, and probably one of her least known ones. I haven't looked into it, really, but I think it's about a guy who's trying to get into a university... Very similar to Love Hina.

When I first read it, the story seemed very nice - which caught me off guard as I expected to not really like it. That was quite a while ago....
The story's basis - a comical stance on a guy who is sorrounded by a series of female characters but is in many cases left romanticly alone - is utterly hillarious and was very well written, irregardless of the source of the plot.
Though light-hearted in many ways....( specially when you ignore many of the later anime ) it is interesting how it is in reality a light hearted view of real life....lol
Or perhaps I'm looking too much into things....as I often have a habit of doing.

The only thing I like about the anime is the begnning theme Sakura Saku. That song pawns.
