I read a while back that Konami is making a new Contra game. They say that it will be very similar to the original Contra. any thoughts on this? I hope it's good. They did make one on the PS2, but it wasn't very good. The only tradmark of the series was it's insane difficulty.

It's one of the classics that I hope doesn't die out. There are probably a lot of people these days that don't know what Contra is.

It would be cool if that happened. There are a lot of other platformers that I want to get a comeback.

contra was a great game...and hard as hell without the 30 men cheat code! lol. the original contra and the snes contra were my favorites.

it was one of those good ol fashioned "twitch" thumb jockey games. one hit you're dead....sure there were patterns you could exploit, but it's hard to learn the games weaknesses when you're being shot at from all directions..lol.

yeah, which backs up my "old platformers are harder than new platformers" theory.

its true, they knew better back then...if you make a game that noone can beat everyone will play it more just so they can tell there friends they beat it...if you make a game just anyone can beat (like newer ones) the fun of all that is gone

yeah back in the day it was tough for gamers to prove themselves. the original ninja gaidens for the nes were also hard as hell. remember those precision jumps? and what futher sucked is enemies would come at you even when you were in mid air between platforms! get knocked back and enemies would just respawn and keeep coming...and the boss battles! remember how hard the twin kelebros hounds were and your last battle with joquio? i still have nightmares!

yes... all of the old Ninja Gaiden, and Shinobi games were tough. Some other tough oldies are Trojan, Double Dragon, and Smash TV.

the first megaman was pretty hard too but then 2 seemed easier. i think they tried increasing the challenge in 3 and 4 (though there's a cheap trick in 3 that can make u invicible) the first double dragon was very challenging especially the nes version because you had to "learn" more moves as the game progressed. you didn't just start out being a bad ass. i liked the sega double dragon because it kept the co-operative two player element where you could be both brothers unlike the nes where the last guy is your brother. this brings up another point. nowadays if a game is on 3 systems it's almost identical on each one...back in the day if a game was on multiple systems it'd be extremly different for each console. during the snes days i was big fans of side scrolling beat em ups....and i have to admit the streets of rage series was far better then the final fight games. i also was addicted to golden axe like it was caffeine!lol. castlevania was always very good...i especially like simon's quest and dracula's curse. when sotn came out for the ps 1 i was elated. it was so much fun i played through it 10 times..lol. you know what kinda freaks me out though? after sotn EVERY belmont looked just like alucard. i mean come on the belmonts aren't even related to dracula so why do all the vampire hunters look like dracula's son?! as for aria of sorrow it's ok that soma looks like alucard because he is just dracula reincarnated...i also noticed the castlevanias of gba all mimic sotn...not saying that it's a bad thing...still sooner or later ppl are going to get tired of the same recycled levels play mecanics over and over again. unfortunatelly you can't do as many innovations with the gba as you can with a ps2 or x-box. personally i'd also love to see another castlevania starring alucard only in 3d for the ps2...lament of innocence was a very good game but they could have done it better..maybe they'll get it right next time around.
